Yes I've heard the Sco do these dissonant type stabs while playing rhythm or in solos. Another facet to his unique voice as a guitar player. Great lesson and thanks for posting !!!

Just found this while working on some JS ideas. Great video, simple to understanf and easy to implement especially over a minor blues or on a dominant V chord. To the guy who says ‘tensions’ is a more accurate term. Actually, no. This is clearly about dissonance between simultaneous tones. Tension is a much wider concept that can include dissonance. In that way, dissonance is nrrower and thus more accurate.

I actually think he does use the closer minor and mayor 2nd intervals. Just listen to the melody in nooks and crannies! he actually messes it up according to the scales to give it that trashed wicked dissonance. Great video. Thanks a lot!

@beeastman123 He uses the whole tone scale quite a bit. Very bright outside sound. Emphasis on the major third between the #11 and the b7. Love his sound.

I guess it's a flat 9, yes? I understand it to be the most dissonant interval in music.
@Dolphinstreets8 жыл бұрын
Yes that is correct.
@GardenOfHedon3 жыл бұрын
Would actually be just a regular 9 wouldn’t it?? If the tonality is Em, & you’re playing an F#, that’s just a 9. Coupled with the G (b3) that’s only a half step higher, we get that dissonance.

You've got a great, fat sound with that strat! May I ask you what strings you use exactly, they seem somewhat thicker than the 10s. Also, do you have a very short reverb on your sound? Thanks for the lesson!

Short reverb, yes.

And what about the strings, they almost seemed flatwound..

Haha, thanks: I learned a lot: shorter reverb and less highs is good.

What scale does Sco use to go 'out' to build tension when he plays over 1 chord vamps with MMW
@torindavies11767 жыл бұрын
There's a cool thing he often does, where say your playing e maj 7, if you play eb minor pentatonic over the top, resolving on 3 it's really nice
@newtonlkh7 жыл бұрын
Does it matter whether that E maj7 is a lydian or ionian?
@Artec6196 жыл бұрын
Im a bit late here, but if there is just an Emaj7 you can make it sound lydian or ionian or whatever with your scales. But its just possible is there are no other chords that make that Emaj7 fit into another function, outlining what mode you should be playing

That is very cool Robert. Thank you! It reminds me a little of the #9 Hendrix chord. I wonder if there are ways to use them both in a tune.
@TheAlexkru8 жыл бұрын
there absolutely are, if you take the same two notes and make it an E7 chord instead of E-7 you are then playing the 9 and #9 or in that case what you could do would be play a G and a G# (#9 and Major 3rd) just move the shape up a half step.
@TheAlexkru8 жыл бұрын
the best thing to do is just play around and find what works for you man, best of luck
