I agree, with John Singleton, on the movie. The movie was more about headlines not his life. Tupac, has rich history with both parents being from the black panthers, and both godfathers being black panthers. Tupac, was more than a rapper he was a storyteller. poet, very knowledgeable ,intelligent, and active in the community. Real Tupac fans who grew up on his music understand what John Singleton, is talking about. The movie did nothing to help Tupac, legacy.

Nia Mark you're probably like 15 years old stop it the movie open Tupac up to a whole new generation how can you possibly say that nothing to help him you know how big of a message that movie has as far as unity and black power not to mention this doofus wanted Tupac rate and wanted his mom in the threesome but yet he expects us to believe mom approved of the script come on now not even you are that stupid

I'ma squash this once and for all, Tupac Resurrection will ALWAYS be the true DEFINITIVE Tupac movie. Why? Cause Tupac told his truth!!!!! AND Afeni was the EP of the movie & it was created in partnership between MTV & his estate. Mic drop. Good night. LOL.

No matter what anyone does about Tupac, he can never be accurately portrayed, his fans can never be satisfied. I personally think 2Pac's story should be done in series instead of just one movie, just like China did with Bruce Lee. Trying to capture such a dynamic Legend in a 2 hour film will inevitably paint him as more of one thing than another. R.I.P John Singleton, Tupac, etc
@Rao_Rolland
@Rao_Rolland 6 ай бұрын
I know you're 100% right...but in my mind it can be done in a 2 and half hour movie. Every story told about Tupac doesn't have to be put on screen. We THINK that's what we want to see...but in all honesty that slows down the overall pace of the film. We don't need a 2 minutes scene about Tupac and Treach getting into a fight at a night club just because it's an obscure story...We don't need 15 musical reenactments with an actor lip syncing Tupac's songs. What for? Here's why I know it can be done in a feature film: RAY CHARLES LIVED WAY LONGER THAN TUPAC. HAD WAY MORE STORIES AND KNEW EVERY CELEBRITY YOU COULD POSSIBLY THINK OF. THEY TOLD HIS STORY IN 2 HOURS AND DID AN EXCELLENT JOB OF IT. Tupac didn't live to be 30 but we seem to think his tale is so large it can't be told unless in a series. Here's the harsh facts: Tupac's legend was way larger than his life. A 2 or 3 part mini-series should be the most given. If they did an out right show with actual seasons, it would bore people. Remember the Wu Tang series? We got bored of it before it even got to the good part of the story. 😂
@jon_s
@jon_s 5 ай бұрын
@@Rao_Rolland Makes sense except that Ray Charles was an influencial musician with 1 personality. His story could be captured in a 2-hour film, especially because in his time cameras were not so common so we could have missed many moments in time. Most young people of today have never heard the name Ray Charles. On the other hand, if you put together all available footages of Tupac's interviews, time in the studio, time out having fun, live performances, charity, time with the boys, time clowning, time in police custody, time in court, time incarcerated, time in hospital, fighting, married, divorced etc captured on tape + his over 800 tracks + music videos + 6 movies + guest appearances in TV shows + everything else, it kinda feels like he lived 8 lives in 6 years. There's just too much material out there portraying his multidimensional personality to tell his story in 2 hours. We have 2Pac The Poet, The Thug, The Hussler, The Revolutionary, The Clown, the Leader, The Rapper, The Warrior, The Felon, The Business Man, The Philanthropist, The Lover, The Player, The Friend, The Husband, The Divorcee, The Gunshot Patient, The Target, ETC. There's just too much of this one many to make one movie that satisfies his fan. The Chinese were faced with this same issue on how to portay Bruce Lee, even though Bruce Lee had not done (or put out) half as much as Tupac with the more years he had in the entertainment industry. Not even close. However, the Chinese still had problems portraying him in 1 movie. They rather did documentaries and a few failed movies here and there until they found the suitable plot and finally released The Legend of Bruce Lee as a TV series, 35 years after his death. According to family and fans, that 2008 release was the most satisfying portrayal of Bruce Lee's life. I believe that Tupac's story will be similar. many failed movies will continue to be released until sometime in the future someone will get it right with solid series of 30 or more episodes

How do you feel about the Dear Mama limited series?
@jon_s
@jon_s 4 ай бұрын
@@nonameman7114 I didn't watch it until you mentioned and now I've watched the first and last episodes to have a general overview. Although it is so far the best portrayal of 2Pac's story, it's still too feminist for my taste. Tupac was made of 2 parents and whether they liked it or not, Billy Garland is Tupac's biological father. Deliberately leaving him out (for whatever personal reasons) is leaving a piece of Tupac out. Ironically, Billy Garland is now the only bloodline of Tupac that is still alive. It's no coincidence that he looks and sounds like Tupac. Imagine how much better that documentary would be with a senior version of Tupac portrayed, and not in bad faith because Billy himself honestly and openly admitted that he wasn't in Tupac's life and he won't make any excuses. But something we cannot deny is Billy Garland's biological fatherhood of Tupac, and Afeni blocked the world from that knowledge just to keep that man from making a penny from what she thought was Tupac's estate money. Imagine if Afeni made peace with Billy just for Tupac's sake, just for Tupac fan's sake, just for the black community sake. Imagine how far that would go to set an example to YBG that you don't have to despise your babydady for life. Afeni kept preaching love yet she couldn't stop hating the man she had the most previous gift of a child with. Billy said he reached out to her and tried everything for the sake of their son, Tupac, but she remained hell-bent on referring to him as "nothing but a sperm donor". And then this docu series comes out affirming Afeni's hate for Billy, even after her passing. That's just wrong on many levels.

I honestly believe that John singleton wasn't going to implement a "Rape scene", but a scene of the cavity check, and harassment that PAC went through with police brutality. Remember that Tupac was a Shakur Panther, he had endless knowledge of Cointel, read into how his closest family members were killed. An opening scene depicting that would've left a strong impression on the audience, and would've sparked a different mindset of the viewers. In 2017, it would've created a discussion that would answer a lot of questions regarding the black community, and who is truly against us. This is the purpose of a Tupac Biopic. This movie had the potential to wake up masses and was sabotaged. Can't wait for an unfiltered black funded movie.

John is a great director. So maybe he could have made it come to life more.. But he says Tupac would never go for someone disrespecting his family..true..But would he go for someone alleging he got raped? He blasted on Chino XL for using that metaphor(that's initially where the rumor came from). Yeah the movie could have went deeper into the background. It started off well showing a few things I didn't know. But I wanted it to show what made this guys skill level so great Almost like he just starts rapping.. You don't get that great without something going on as a kid. What kind of kid was he?.. And him meeting the Outlawz,..Khadafi was his brother from the Panther movement since kids and I don't think his name was even called. Also it could have tied more into the crazy things that were going on in Vegas. Big Frank has interviews on youtube talking about that. Could have shown him recording Makevelli album. That was his last complete work. I think it deserved more airtime. Like him calling out the dudes he felt set him up on "Against All Odds", the fact he felt Stretch who was with him that night had something to do with it...His obsession with recording so many songs in the end that everybody speaks on because of him feeling like the end was near . I think the last 30 mins was real typical of what we know. That's when you use all the resources of his closest friends to paint a picture of his last days that we can not get from media. But all in all it was solid. I do believe L.T. probably bumped heads with Afeni so he and John were both fighting and maybe a little selfish to their involvement instead of the truth for Tupac and for a generation...I think if they could have done sooner and Afeni(mother standpoint), Outlawz( closest homies standpoint) and Big Frank(key bodyguard around him more than anybody standpoint) as key sources, all basis would have been covered. But Ship did a fantastic job.
