wayne carried a lot of power in his crosses. he was a rangy raw boned very strong athlete as a youth. then in his late 20's he filled out more. people forget he was recruited to play lineman at usc, same team that won natl championship. he played some until he wrecked his shoulder.... think about that for a sec., you wouldve had to have been a very good athlete & old school strong back then to play. he was rawbone 220's in youth & then added another 15lbs. his punches would hurt a lot.

More than the punches from many martial artists. Seriously, they need to get better at training thenselves or else they'll be fighting like GTA 5 characters.
@williamreside55732 жыл бұрын
It really illustrates how many times The Duke sucker punched his opponents. Then again, you string together scenes from your movies and the patterns (of the fight coordinators) start to show. It really was the golden age of fight scenes.

Bill Anthony Theirs actually more than a few of his westerns that oddly didn’t contain a fist fight. Like The Searchers, True Grit, Rooster Cogburn, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The Train Robbers and Cahill: U.S. Marshall.

@@patricksaxon3983 yeah, i think that's what he meant. the Foley made the sounds louder in post production during later movies. Seeing as how almost all of those punches didn't connect with anything all of the the sounds are fake. I only say "almost" because accidents happen.

The Duke himself stated that he did more fight scenes than any other Hollywood star. This happens to be true to this day when counting all the movies he did. John Wayne's best cinematic fight scenes were with Randolph Scott: THE SPOILERS 1942 and second to it, PITTSBURGH 1942. The Duke got his nose broken by Randolph Scott during the fight sequence in The Spoilers when Scott mistimed a punch. Wayne made a nod to this incident years later in THE COMANCHEROS 1961 via screenwriter J. E. Grant. The Duke stated that his boyhood idol was Jack Dempsey...And that he copied the Manassa Mauler's punching style for his onscreen fight scenes.

Well, let's not get carried away here, or think of these movie scenes as inspiration the next time somebody bumps into you in a bar or someplace. It's actually all too easy (and likely) to break half the bones in your hand by punching another guy in the jaw. It's also very easy for your jaw to break from just one full out punch (not to mention what could happen to your teeth). I've had both a broken hand and a broken jaw (neither from fighting, I'm happy to say), and even after 25 years, I'm still living with physical discomfort and a certain amount of disfigurement. Life sure as hell ain't like the movies, so please, don't ever intentionally try to prove that it is, okay? Just some friendly advice.
