It's an homage to another parody, I do things like this, add references to the stuff I like, some of it is really stupid and hard to get like Jurassic Park and Plato and Diogenes fight over the definition of a man, and some is easier Voldemort had Pitch Meetings, then you have my usage of "Idiocracy" which is an homage to a movie that Parodies and Satirises, but where they do culture, I do movies and TV shows, it's another subtle bit of ironic humour. Not as funny when I have to explain the jokes but yeah

Honestly on rewatches, the whole movie it feels like everyone (including John himself) are more pissed because the son didn't kill him. Like after 5 years of being off the grid, John was relatively rusty and at times out right lost fights once he started on his revenge quest, leading me to headcanon that John is lowkey suicidal. Ultimately to me it felt like John while rightfully angry about his dog is more pissed at the unprofessionalism of the mob and assassins since his retirement/unretirement

Well, he didn't really let John leave. He gave him an 'impossible task' - fully expecting John to die...and when John succeeded (with Santino D'Antonio's help) he had no choice but to let him actually leave. But what I like about the scenes with Viggo: Every time you see him (in non-action scenes) he takes increasingly hard drugs to cope. It's an elegant cinematic way to underscore how his mental state breaks down as the situation goes from bad to worse for him.
@tjjordan4207
@tjjordan4207 Ай бұрын
Something that I LOVE about the first film is how it doesn't tell us what the "impossible task" is. It gives us enough clues to figure it out, like Viggo saying "the bodies he buried that day, laid a foundation of what we are now", but we still don't know how big the task was or who the targets were. It could have been competition against Viggo or even his upper employers. Or both. And I've always wondered what D'Antonio did to help John achieve his, which is never explained, but adds to the lore of John Wick. While he still pulled off the impossible task, it shows that he required help to achieve it. My best guess is that D'Antonio gave John the locations of his targets or even arranged a meeting for John to set up a trap of all the targets. Or it simply could be that D'Antonio secured permission from the High Table for John to take out these individuals.

John might have just beat him up. It would let him get the catharsis, and probably avoid being "back". He is at the worst of his grieve, hasn't kill in years, is still unshure if he should be doing this and got thrashed out of nowhere last night. This was the moment to take him out... and every little oportunity they had is wasted. By the time the second movie comes, he is already at his prime again, ready to burn an entire underground empire to the ground.

@@luisreynamboarcos2958 And by the third, he's getting branded, chopping off his own finger and going to multiple people for help, just before falling off a building. While I fell out of love with some of the action in this movie, the core of the matter is John is put in a downward spiral throughout each film, first being the one in control of the rampage he started until he digs himself deeper and deeper into his own grave before he is pushed to get himself killed to stop the violence and get the targets off of his remaining friend's backs, the ones that weren't yet killed for supporting him that is. He may have taken more punishment than any normal being should, but it all came at a great cost in the end.

IMO he was vulnerable only up untill Vigo called him. He wanted to hear him out and when Vigo started all this bullshit about being calm and sort it out together, he lost it all. Sure, he gets the reputation but the moment he pushes to far (wich lets be honest, he will) towards the wrong person (wich there are many) and he becomes unable to stand his ground, hes not only fucked, but hell likely be killed on the spot. In addition, John Wick was a very respectable and honorable assassin/bounty hunter. He was friendly towards many people who had several connections. I mean FFS, the moment he broke the Continental Rule, he was given an hour head start to prepare himself and run. The idea that Iosef will survive more then a week after people do enough digging about how Wick died, is not only laughable but impossible.

If they were willing to potentially deal with Viggo, that is. This is still a criminal underworld built on strict rules and unless someone orders a hit on Iosef in revenge for John's murder, the rest of the "old guard" would likely just accept John's death as a tragedy and move on in respect of the order of things. Before they put the bag over John's head, The mob boss (I can't spell his name offhand) Is clearly all the more agitated by John's speech, muttering things to himself in Russian, more than likely pejoratives. Because it was this moment when he understood the enormity of what his son had done. It wasn't just any dog: It was the wife's dog, her final gift to John in order to help John cope with her passing. There are undoubtedly countless times where this man probably thinks to himself, What could I have done better? How could I have handled this better? Maybe I should have talked to John differently the only time he picked up the phone? But now, he realizes that there was never a possible way to diffuse this situation.

the way they built the character of John Wick up like they did was brilliant. it's implied that if Iosef was paying attention he should know exactly who john wick is and what he did to build up the organization that Iosef himself is a part of it. I can only imagine the conflict going on inside Viggo after that phone call. like do you Blame your stupid entitled son? do you blame yourself for possibly not letting him know who John was? all you know is the Guy who cleared the way for you to build your empire is coming back to dismantle it one brick at a time. and that Dog was Tiny they didn't have to kill it. @JacklynBurn True. I think in John Wick's logic, he could have sort of forgiven him about the car. Stealing cars isn't uncommon, and he could have used his connections to get it back somehow. Even if it was damaged, it could have been repaired. But killing the dog was an unnecessary act of excessive sadism and cruelty. It's an innocent life that was taken. Some people steal cars to get money or for the thrill of it. But you really have to be messed up in the head to kill a pet.

14:39, 19:32, There may have been other antagonists in this series, but Viggo is arguably the best one because of how his story plays out like a mythical tragedy, a man making a deal with a monster to destroy his enemies to make himself a king, only for his own son to anger that monster into undoing the man's kingdom. It's made all the sadder with this franchise's take on most of the younger assassins and High Table members in this universe as pompous, treacherous and increasingly dismissive of honor and the rules of this world in their ambition, contrasting John, Winston and the Bowery King and their increasing animosity towards the High Table and it's increasingly domineering attitude towards its members. Viggo, while arrogant and cruel, is part of that old guard that is being phased out and replaced with, 2:05, lesser individuals like Iosef, Perkins, Santino and the Marquis, an unlike those others, he understands this fact, so his empire collapsing around him as he tries to hold onto what power he has left is framed by the film itself as tragic. Even John's revenge against Iosef and him rings hollow in the end, as it is only the start of a rampage that John himself becomes trapped in until it kills him, having been unable to move on and process his grief over losing his wife in a healthy way. 1:23, Also, the character was hilarious when he wanted to be and had cool little character details, how he escalates from just drinking to smoking weed, until he's fully inebriated by the end.

Yeah this franchise went from kinda silly action movie to just cartoonishly absurd. Is everyone an assassin? @ More so, it went from contained action thriller with hints of a larger criminal underworld with it's own culture and rules to an alternate history setting with a more exaggerated, comic book reality. Main issue I have with the movie is that while yes Viggo was so well written initially and it was great to see a character actually understand how fucked the situation is it immediately undoes all of it. Viggo does a complete 180 from “He’s the one you send to kill the fucking boogeyman”, “We gave him and impossible task and it built the foundation of what we are today”, and “You will do nothing because you can do nothing” to then hurling all his men to their deaths and destroying his organization by putting it in the line of fire. As much as he might care about his son it would make more sense to just cut him loose and let him deal with the consequences of his own mistake. The initial call to attempt to smooth things was fair but beyond that Viggo acts like a moron. Not to mention that in the miracle case where they do capture John Wick he does the whole villain monologue and leaves the room so his henchman can finish the job rather than just killing him right there when they had the chance. Still a fun movie overall but they really torpedoed Viggo’s character after the great set up.

@@livelife4928 his son dug his own hole. It’s like a police officer seeing his son get the death penalty for murder. He may not like it but it’s the consequences of his son’s own actions. As to respect how much respect does Viggo have after getting most of his subordinates killed, their money burned, his son dies regardless, and then Viggo dies himself. He’d have more respect from his men by not throwing them and the whole organization he leads into a proverbial meat grinder for his idiot son’s screw ups.

@@CeliriaRose it's a lose lose situation. For people like the Tarasov family, respect and imagery are to die for. It's why Iosef went after John in the first place. John " disrespected " him by not bowing his head down in their first interaction and openly telling him to back the heck off in front of his subordinates. At this time, he thought John was a nobody and this act alone was enough for him to come to his house and wreck his life in any way he could. Viggo taught him this and Viggo is no different himself

That honestly would have been the smartest thing to do, Vigo at 60 could still have a child or adopt an heir making one of his men the next in line.

I watched this movie for the first time with this perspective running in my head and the movie became a comical badass show. Such an awesome start to the movie.

I feel like Viggo could have actually avoided everything on that phone call. He blew it when he asked John to act like “civilized men”. John is not and never was a civilized man. If Viggo had apologized, acknowledged John’s feelings and offered recompense it might have worked.

His best bet would be to disown his crazy son and make Jhon Wick his replacement. First you get rid of a useless son for someone more competent and second you get John Wick not to hate you hopefully.

Watching this from this perspective. Vigo and his son are a lot alike. I thought that was kind of interesting to be put in a movie. Both of them didn't kill John when they had a chance. Both taunted him. And John's friend Marcus, the only one that ever had a drop on him from all the movies. Could have taken him out. without having any consequences. Not even a bloody nose.

Broooooo I'm so glad I found this video. That was fantastic. That last like convo between vigo and John wick was the most bro shit ever 😂. The "ight I'll see u later" is hilarious knowing he killed him and that if there is a god when they die they'll both be in the same place 😂😂.

What i never understood was how did his son not know who John wick was surely his father would have told him if you ever bump into this man even accidentally you apologise and walk away. And why was wick so easy to beat when they broke in and killed his dog he barely even fought back.

1) Its implied that John had been retired for at least a couple of years by the time they cross paths at that gas station. No need to warn your son about a long-gone legend. There's also a theme of respect among the old guard - Marcus, when sent to kill John, saves his life instead of following the contract. In 2, John spares Cassian as a "professional courtesy", but doesn't do the same when he kills Santino's mute bodyguard - honor and respect are offered in kind. 2) He's still grieving for his wife and not in the assassin mindset. You can see how quickly that changes, killing the hit team the same night he lost his car and Daisy.

@ 1) yeah why warn your son about a long gone legend that used to work for you that could dismantle your entire empire within days kill your son then you. 2) He still has his phone number and address and obviously fears him or why call him and almost beg him not to come after his son even the guy in the garage knew he could punch his son and get away with it because when the dad found out why he’d be furious with the son. 3) I’m sure your gonna leave some long winded answer to this like uh he didn’t have his assassin powers activated or his special suit or weapon but I’m not gonna respond as I’m sure you’ve seen the movie 20 times and know all the characters names like they were your friends because i don’t care if he had informed his son who Wick was he’d/they’d still be alive and doing their thing.

@@Jacobstaffordshire2010 1) 2)It’s heavily implied that Viggo had no use for any of the numbers from his past, given how he had to de-dust the ‘little black book’ before calling him. 3)If he had told his son who John was, then there is no movie. At some point you just accept things as is and don’t worry about it too much.
