Indeed the "agressive" Aikido is the ancient Aiki-Jutsu, and the techniques used in the movie are more from Aiki-jutsu than Aikido (which is safer). For example, the shionage with the straight arm is coming from AIki-Jutsu :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXnQiKCEf7ShiLc

@@JudoLife oh, and one more thing - IMHO John uses Aiki-dzutsu, not Aikido, the difference between them: Aikido - it is not fully martial art but a way of finding harmony, finding "the way", open your inner energy, and philosophy (I cannot explain it in words but hope you'll catch my thought), Aikido techniques do not aim to hurt your foe, it just needed to neutralize enemies without getting hurt them. Also Aikido movements are circular in the most Aiki-dzutsu - it is actually martial art in all ways (was invented by Takeda clan), and its goal is to deliver maximum damage to your foe (broken arms, multiple inner injuries, adding karate-like punches in the techniques, finishing moves after performing grabs and throws). Movements are rather angular than circular, and going by shortest trajectories. Thats how Sensei teached me

@@juandenz2008 I noticed that too; IMHO it looks different because uke didn't pivot backwards enough to make it look like 'classic' shihonage... so the angle towards tori was a bit different, resulting in a different arm position... actually making it much more dangerous as it could cost you the elbow if not flipping in time

Women self defence can be a lot of things. I personally think that women need to learn as children so they have the skills when they are dating as teenagers. Judo, karate, TKD, aikido, any art as long as they get some striking and some close quarter grappling and throwing. It's hard to out strike a male offender. Easier to grapple a striker, and strike a grappler, as a tactical approach. The main aspect is preparation by years at the combat sports, so danger is avoided.

Try telling that to a Daito Ryu practitioner, or an Iwama Style Saito Aikidoka, they were trained under a more youthful Ueshiba Morihei founder of Aikido. They are more street credible. Ueshiba Sensei himself was under the Army that sacked China, and so has a distaste of injurious assaults but believed we should limit self defence to fend for ourselves and walk away from conflict without harming our opponents. Of course he was a master at it, but it spread so quickly and wasn't highly controlled by good structure like Shorinji Kempo is.

Daito Ryu Aiki Jujitsu is very different from Kito Ryu and other specific schools of Jujitsu that Judo based out of. It’s true that grid iron, rugby, and soccer ⚽️ and hockey are all winter ball sports. That doesn’t make them a single sport. Their differences define them and making a blend is just that.

Excellent video, but I wanted to say that 2:23 is not an ashi garami. Ashi garami means simply "leg entanglement" and refers to a variety of positions that involve using your legs to control your opponents legs, either for sweeps, passes, or leg locks
@JudoLife Жыл бұрын
CORRECT: I made a mistake naming; Ashi gatame (not garami) is the figure 4 entangled leg arm lock attempt just before the crucifix roll, which doesn't pin because it goes off the edge of the bed. My bad calling it garami, I think correct name ashi-gatame refers to either bent or straight arm locks using leg to break opponents elbow, even in bent situation like figure 4.
