I can completely excuse that oversight, as the rigidity of the “assassin culture” wasn’t exactly thought of at this time. However, in universe, it makes zero sense given that Perkins is seasoned enough to avoid that. John and Perkins know each other, and given that John was retired for five years, Perkins is no stranger to the world when we are introduced to her. It just feels odd that such a small bounty would drive an experienced assassin to do something so silly. But again, I get that they just didn’t think of how their whole world worked when the first installment came out.

Perkins is a wannabe hardass thinking she could claw her way up bending or breaking the rules when it suits her, while John is an honest man, professional, ruthless, a gentleman, essentially the model assasin for everyone working for the Table. When Perkins broke the rule, we see her dead, not just because she broke some ironclad rule, but also because she never did got around earning the respect of her surroundings, she was honorless, opportunistic, crass, only loyal to her greed. When John broke the rules, he have friends and enemies that respected him because in his long career of killing people, he was always one to conduct his business with honor and respect which in turn he have earned the loyalty of very few but reliable denizens of the underworld, and that repertoire is what allowed him to get so far despite having an international bounty on his head. He Have Serve, He will be of Service But when he no longer cares about the rules, he buried more bodies over the course of a few months than perhaps his entire career while working for the Table. I mean have anyone seen how high his body count is from chapter 1 to 4, all that death and carnage done by a single man in such short amount of time, and to think it all started because of some idiots breaking and entering in the wrong house, in the worst time of John's life.

I feel like snipers are less useful in a world were every article of clothing it “bulletproof” . A sniper in this world is as good as dead if they don’t land a headshot. It’s probably cleaner to hire someone to get closer. plus 90% of the action is inside where snipers can’t get a shot.

@@MichaelRoberts9000 I don't think the concealable body armors they all use in the Wick universe, prolly less than IIIA level, can do much to stop modern sniper rifles. Actually, they don't do anything at all except maybe not die immediately but you're left at death's door. Heck, if Perkins had the same idea as Marcus here, seeing as she knows the exact location of John, she could easily kill him. I really do believe the only reason they don't put snipers is because it's not very exciting to see (John Wick is known for his gunfu spectacle after all) and that it's too powerful and so it gets hard to suspend disbelief when John is matched against smart enemies instead of ones that just go all up to his face so that John could blast them in the nutsack. Don't get me wrong, I love John Wick, but it would not be hard to make a concerted effort to kill him.

After watching this again, this was a profoundly stupid decision even if she managed to kill John. If Winston didn’t do her in, then any hit man/woman more capable than Ares would’ve destroyed her, considering that she can barely tussle with a John Wick at half strength, or perhaps less. It seems that her ambition blinded her so badly that she deluded herself into thinking she could operate outside the rules, when the punishment for doing so is painfully obvious.
@superdave8248

Yes, they tried to sale the idea that she is crazy enough to want the recognition of killing John Wick. And this early into the series they under sale the punishment for breaking the house rules. It isn't until the second movie that you discover how important not doing business at the hotel is. In reality, you do what the sniper did. Only instead of shooting the pillow, you double tap John. But something tells me that the Continential should have bullet proof windows and no beds facing the windows. A contradiction. Because you know somebody would have tried this to get around the rules. You can't be claimed to have broke the rules of the hotel if the shot was fired from outside the hotel grounds.

And in chapter four, everyone has suits like that. Hell they can stop an arrow from going through your arm. Still hurts like hell tho. Kind of explains why he's always wearing them. I would go to call this woman the dumbest character in the series. At least Ioseph has the excuse of not knowing who he was fucking with. Perkins knows the hotel rules, knows who John is, and only does it for $4 dollars.

Very few people are stupid enough to spill blood inside any of the Continental hotels. The fight with Zero on New York, before the hotel was “condemned” by the Adjudicator, once in Rome with Cassian, and almost happened again with Hiroyuki Sanada’s character in 4.

Considering what we learn in the future movies, I still can't understand why Perkins was willing to break the rules for what realistically was a measly couple million. I know it's a lot, but even if she did get that money, it would do nothing to protect her from the High Table and Continental

perkins was depicted as cocky and kind of stupid from the drop, to be fair. she's a perfect example of how a person can believe so hard in their skill that common sense goes out the window. granted, she would have to be VERY stupid to do this given what we know in future movies, but i'm willing to believe that she is.
