Hello! This time I bring you the result of many months of work, doing all kinds of tests, choosing the best articulations to create an effective and versatile orchestral template.
It's based on the wonderful new Abbey Road One from Spitfire Audio. My main goal is to use my other libraries that build up my template so after several different processes, they give me the feeling of sounding in the same studio and in a credible way, being in Abbey Road.
I have chosen one of the most prodigious compositions of John Williams, "Harry's wondrous world", in the version of "chamber of secrets". It's plenty of colors, different time signatures, tempo changes, and a challenge in itself for getting the best of every single library.
LIBRARIES:
Woodwinds:
BBCSO: piccolo, flutes, 2 flutes, oboe, 2 oboes, English horn, clarinet, 2 clarinets, and bassoon.
Symphonic Woodwinds: piccolo, oboe, English horn, clarinet, bassoon, and contrabassoon.
Berlin Woodwinds; Eb clarinet
Brass:
Abbey Road One: Trumpets, horns
BBCSO: Trombones, tuba
Sample Modeling: Trumpet 3 (version 3.0)
Harp:
Spitfire Audio Skaila Kanga
Celeste:
Cinesamples Randy Kerber celeste
Piano:
Pianoteq 6 (it appears in the score, but I am sure is not present in this soundtrack version)
Percussion:
BBCSO; Vibraphone, glockenspiel rolls, snare, bass drum, cymbals, suspended cymbals, triangle.
Abbey Road One; Timpani, glockenspiel.
Strings:
BBCSO, violins I and II, violas, cellos, double basses.
Spitfire Audio Symphonic strings; 2nd major, 2nd minor, 3 minor thirds.
Spitfire Audio Chamber strings; violins I legato
Orchestral Tools; Sphere 4th trills
Audiobro: Lass cellos legato for some legato pattern ( the only one that let me avoid machine gun effect)
Hola!

Unbelievable! Outstanding! Never thought of combining ARO and BBCSO. And those trumpets (SM = SampleModeling?) and horns! That sounds like an 99% Orchestra (Strings need 1% more) - assuming Your great craftsmanship to handle it. Phenomenal! How did You manage that crisp sound and the same time huge reverb? Perfect balance!

Thanks again! I would like to edit these strings a bit more but, KZbin doesn't let you update any àudio content (except if you want to use some audio included in the creator studio) so.. I based my main sound on ARO, as a main reference, than I inserted a great plugin called Silverspike R2 to achieve the room tone in many instances (it's a huge and long explanation) and combining different mic positions from every library.

Amazingly great job programming this blending those libs, my severe compliments! All by ear or (piano)score? Specificly the brass is just outstanding. Did it need a lot of tweaking? I think from the middle till the end your phrasing programming is the best. The beginning might need a bit more dynamic phrasing in my opinion. Regards, Jeff Hijlkema
@xaviduch

Thank you Jeff!! This is probably one of the most difficult mockup I did...It contains a rollercoaster tempo track and it's hard to achieve the dynamics are following the tempo changes, especially with legato parts, but my main goal was to blend a lot of different libraries/resources and to mimic the original sound of the original soundtrack. Yes, a lot of tweaking. And this time it was made through a combination of a base midi file (with thousands of tiny errors to fix) a complete score except the final part, by ear...On the score you just got the another final version so...A week of work!

¡Asmobroso trabajo! Querría hacerle una pregunta: ¿hacer este tipo de videos (recrear música con derechos de autor con librerías orquestales) puede acarrear problemas por derechos de autor (por ejemplo, que el video sea desmonetizado o incluso borrado)?
@xaviduch
@xaviduch 2 жыл бұрын
Hola Marcos!

that sounds pretty well ! congratulations ! there's just some very brieve high passages that sound a bit synthetic (for example at 3:57, the brasses; I would recommend you Vista for the strings, even if the legato sound good in general) but this is details and due to the sample libraries I would say. You did a very great work, I never heard a well-done mockup of this song like you did; might have been very instructive

Thank you so much Sellouth! Well, I agree....Always there are things we don't like us....like no round robins in legato strings patterns and the way some articulations reacts when they are forced to sound like some than it exists and you can't escape or lie about it..this is the reason for I always try to push harder those libraries. Obviously, I prefer to do my compositions to avoid comparing versions! ;)

Hey Xavier, your mock-ups are really great! In using BBCSO and other Spitfire libraries do you automate other parameters than just Expression and Dynamics?
@xaviduch
@xaviduch 2 жыл бұрын
Hello!! And thank you! ... No, that's all, and in some cases I create a tempo map to match the original recording but expression and dynamics are the only thing that requires automation. Finally, and this is just for a very precise moment, I could automate some effects send mainly for reverb... ;)
@TimHareMusic
@TimHareMusic 2 жыл бұрын
@@xaviduch Appreciate the insight! They are the only 2 I am automating as well, but when I see Andy Blaney's videos it appears he is automating a lot more. Was wondering if I was missing something, but yours sound great!
@xaviduch
@xaviduch 2 жыл бұрын
@@TimHareMusic Well, you know, depending your needs to achieve special sound character, for some libraries, I use more than automation as itself, CC commands to programming, for example, brass or woodwinds short staccato repetitions variations with the dial, like any other articulations. Sometimes, using Sample modeling I use a lot of automation for blow, flutter, vibrato, velocity vibrato, etc (you can hear a lot of this in a short piece I wrote for Adam contest, "drink at Phillies"), or some programming for bassoon in catch me if you can, but... Andy Blany, in their lovely demos, mainly using BBCSO or whatever demo, he uses a lot of automation in the mix section, mics setup, etc plus all you can think about strings vibrato, brass reps etc

The tone of AB1 fits the movie...but I don't get why spend so much time on a mockup with a library that is not meant to do this. Well...maybe not over 5 minutes worth anyway. Sorry, just have to ask why.
@xaviduch
@xaviduch 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jake! Well, It's a good question and it deserves a good answer! As a composer, and many times bass player or just producing, I need to improve my workflow trying to spend less time about finding the right articulation for that, the best room insert plugin for this, the best tale for all, etc (it's a huge etc!) so, I've worked in those templates years ago, every time I can get something I need and find the way to insert another block or section in the template. Ok, it's worth it? Hmm...yes! it's my approach to give the best service to my clients because I know many people are constantly asking themselves if should I buy this or that...does this library fits well with my other stuff...? is there a unique library nowadays that can do all I want (I am afraid no way) So...I think KZbin is perfect for finding this kind of question/answers and If this serves anyone, or brings him to find a solution, I think is a benefit for everybody. I learned so much from KZbin than I love to do it in exchange, and I am getting a good (for me) template with I feel close to my needs! ;)
@jaketanner109
@jaketanner109 3 жыл бұрын
@@xaviduch So you did it purely to work out the library? To learn the library more?
@xaviduch
@xaviduch 3 жыл бұрын
@@jaketanner109 Not exactly to learn more about AB1 in itself (because as you know, right now is just foundations) but base on its sound, the 5 layers capability, and some really lovely details, is my base library where I want to build the rest of the template. I learn a million times more doing some mockup than my own compositions... As I said in some places, you can't escape showing reality when you work with such well-known music! the notes that compose it must sound ... if there is a trombone that in a certain note, it sounds terrible, ok, there you have a mistake and you have to solve it, with another library or however you do it, it will depend on each one ... On the other hand, in a composition of your own, or a demo of the ones we find on the product websites, I am sure that it will not show you any of its weaknesses so (me, you, they) can find some trick or just do the orchestration with another instrument, etc Mockups of well-known scores is risky, you can have a lot of "easy" criticism because everybody knows about the song, but it's a powerful exercise about, studying the score, practice reading, finding good solutions for mimic those notes... and many things more! ;)
