It is election season in Papua New Guinea right now, and this old classic 'MAUSWARA' which was recorded 38 years ago, will always be relevant because it delivers a strong message.
Late John Wong wrote and recorded it back in 1984 to warn the people about corrupt politicians and con artists in general.
'MAUSWARA' in PNG Pidgin slang means bullshit, lies, nonsense, gibberish, exaggeration, liars, con-man, false promises, etc.
It is both a noun and an adjective which basically has negative connotations. Mauswara literally means 'Mouth-water'; maus=mouth and wara=water (drooling in English) .
Sometimes drooling can come about when a person talks and talks and talks (until the cows come home) without even realizing how much nonsense he just spewed out along with the amount of saliva dripping out of his mouth. That is why in Papua New Guinea, politicians (or any candidate that makes far fetched promises during the election period) are often referred to as 'Mauswara' by the voters.
This song is taken from late John Wong's very first solo album titled "Solo In The Volcano" which was recorded with the help of lead guitarist John Warbat and the Pacific Gold musicians in 1984 at Pacific Gold's 24 track Studios in Rabaul..
