The Selftitled was produced by Zorn and it's amazing, but Disco Volante is Bungle's true masterpiece

Never knew about that School album. Really great story! I only saw Eugene Chadbourne once live, but it was a duet with Han Bennink on drums at Tonic. The two of them together are completely bananas!

Great video, those records are priceless. Zorn’s music bewilders me and you did add some clarity to it. Looks like you have a great collection as well. Best to you.

Very cool to see your Zorn vinyl and hear the stories connected with it. I have Naked City and Torture Garden's Naked City on vinyl, which are valuable as well. I have that same pressing of Elephant, also have original pressings of Stripes' S/T, De Stijl, and White Blood Cells. Their stuff fluctuates in value quite a bit. Popsike is a good site to use if you want to know the history of ebay sales for a record. I recently discovered I have two The Walkmen records worth over $150 each, lol.

I've been aware of John Zorn for years but never really exposed myself to his work.I came across a CD by the Masada String playing his compositions and am keen to imerse myself in more of his stuff.

I have been following John Zorn for almost 15 years. At first my impression was that Naked City is cool and everything else is not for me. However, by now I have so many of his works that I used to dismiss initially. Other highly recommended records: - Masada live at Tonic and Sevilla - Electric Masada - At the Mountains of madness - Bar kokhba 50th anniversary 3CD - The circle maker - Book of Angels 10 Lucifer - At the mountains of madness - The Godess - Moonchild trio - the Crucible - Moonchild trio - Ipsissimus

James Fennimore Cooper and also Annie Proulx who wrote Brokeback Mountain have that knack of being so descriptive about landscapes that are melodies of colors as you say. Very nice look at your Zorn records. I got interested in John Zorn through Jeff's {glowingcabbige} video. Now you described him even more. Got to love the VC. Rob/Boston

Derek you're so right. I have records that I know would go for £100 + but could never sell them. They take me back to places and people that I knew, great times that I had and places that don't even exist anymore. I'm a massive fan of The Fall and some of their albums go for huge amounts but I will NEVER sell them. I LOVE THEM!! Great video Derek as always. Love your stuff. Thanks James, Manchester, UK

Could you post a link to the video this was in response to please? I've been a Zorn fan since the late 80s after seeing 'Put Blood In The Music' on UK TV via 'The South Bank Show' which features the only live footage I've ever seen of the Spy Vs Spy group. The LP is one of his all-time best, an easier Zorn vinyl to find and nowhere near a $100 record. You have definitely got something pretty special with that 'School' vinyl though! All those early Zorn/Chadbourne recordings still sound great today. I've always hoped they may record a new album together. It'd be so interesting to hear what they would churn out now after all these years.

When I decided to start buying music on vinyl... White Stripes was on the first on my list of "expensive, but I must have it list".... well, I don't have yet!!!.... too damn expensive.... I might have to settle for one of those awful looking re-issues. I drooled all over myself watching you hold that record :)

Love John Zorn! Unfortunately I've got zilch on vinyl, but many many on CD including that Ornette tribute. Have you heard any of the Painkiller and Naked City stuff? Absolutely terrifying in all respects. Also, Masada in the jazz vein which explores his Jewish roots. Excellent.

Thanks for sharing your John Zorn- very interesting artist. Did I see he just put out a Christmas record? I'll have to give Eugene a call! lol Excellent collection- nice Stripes record as well. I agree 100% on the value of records- it's cool to know you have something of value, but the record is much cooler to have than the cash it may be worth- the music is of much more value IMO. I think I'd only sell my records if we were starving and I had to feed my family- but thats last resort stuff.

a great feature of Discogs is -going into the sales history on records....then you can actually tell what people have paid for and get a history of payments for particular records as opposed to what people are trying to sell it for-which can sometimes be ridiculous

Nothing devalues music than putting a price on it. The value is in the notes, the performance. You demean it by concentrating on what it might be worth in monetary terms. Music has no value unless it's heard.

Ah! you have quite the record there with "School". I've been looking for a copy of that for years to no avail. Awesome story to go along with that as well. I'd say that Eugene Chadbourne is easily one of the greatest musicians.
