Question on composting? Why shouldn't we put citrus in the compost bin ? Thanks in advance

Citrus peel has oils in it, and it can be slow to decompose, so you can be left with pieces of peel in compost. Worms do not like to eat it until it has decomposed a fair bit, and in most compost bins (except for the rotating ones) you will find worms doing a fair bit of the work after a while, so the general rule is don't use it. HOWEVER, a little citrus peel in a compost bin will not hurt if you cut it up really small which speeds up decomposition by giving it a bigger surface area, we avoid using it in worm farms completely. So as a general rule it is said not to use it because people put to much in and do not cut it up before putting it in.....
