I would love to have a go at designing a board, for no other reason than I love PCB design and I could learn more about audio work, that and a decent amp at the end of it all, will contact properly after your vid...cheers.

You can get high power transistor modules like the Mitsubishi QM100HC-M and if you can get the PNP version of this module you might have problems at high currents.

I know John likes powerful amps, but what I wish to see is the cleanest, most musical 16 watt amp. I have really good, efficient speakers. I don't need or want 100 plus watts. Please John, for those of us who like our music without the ability to sterilize frogs at 200 meters... throw us a bone here. Thank you.

I'm actually more interested amps up to around 25 watts. This amp can be operated on reduced supply voltages, say +/- 15v for reduced power and heat. If you like chip amps, the LM1875 will work well in the 15 watt range.

I have no problem with them performance wise. They had some with great performance. The problem is if they fail, it can be hard to find authentic replacements.

What is the advantage of this amplifier over something like the TDA7293 at roughly the same wattage?

That chip is being pushed if operated at more than 29v rails with a 4 ohm load.

Also, I find that Class D can give really bad FM interference, so don't work well with radios.

@@JohnAudioTech that's what they all say. I bet if you learned schematic capture you'd think it was fun. I used to love running the auto router in Eagle. I wish KiCAD had an auto router like that. In KiCAD I love the 3D view. When you lay a board out you can pop open a 3D view of what the board will look like. That's cool! You can spin it around. It's pretty useless. I think they just did it because it is cool.

@@JohnAudioTech when you decide to get going it should not take you long. Knowing electronics is a big leg up. You'll pick up how to use the software fast. I've learned how to use two schematic capture software suites and they both work the same way. You draw the schematic and then the board art. The schematic informs the program what is connected to what. Once it knows that it can guide you while you lay out a board. You work with a rat's nest. Your part pads and air wires. You place parts and draw traces between pads. Easy peasy.

Hi John, I remember how you said you were a classic rock fan. If you haven't heard them before, I would recommend checking out the Edgar Broughton Band. They are a British hard rock band from the late 60's/early 70's. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYbKfIKVgLtpg80

@@mickblackmore290 You can't judge the recording quality based on a crappy youtube rip. The first three EBB records are classic early heavy metal/psych along the lines of early Blue Cheer or The Groundhogs. If this stuff is not your cup of tea, then you will just not get it. That stuff is not for everyone.

There are some things in life that can't be done better than what was already done a long time ago! Class A amplifiers I would say were possibly the first type of amplifier design and nothing since it was invited either in solid state or vacuum tube can do better. Try getting a better audio source than reel to reel tape! You can't! It doesn't exist... Did you know that back in the 1920's they had Electric car's? Yes it's true.. the only reason why they stopped making Electric car's is because petrol was cheap and gave much longer range, but they knew back then that Electric was better.. battery technology had to mature for Electric car's to come back again... And here we are today still with class A amplifiers and Electric car's...
