Hi, John. I have been following your videos for around 3 years already. I enjoy them and have learnt a lot. My congratulations to you for your contribution to the KZbin audio community! I recall that a while back you did the audio test for the LM1875 eBay board and you were very impressed with its performance and almost no distortion. There would be no challenge in obtaining the board in Ebay or reproducing it by means of printing it at home. Perhaps your greatest contribution could be testing and proposing the best components commercially available for a Hi-Fi or almost, stereo project, and proposing the stereo wiring, along with the power source; something for a desktop PC. It would be useful for everyone and would require no development time, since the schematic and board already exist. Secondly, a Hi-Fi headphones amp. But first of all, the Discrete Audio Amp Project PT17 with a PCB, definitely. Congratulations again, and keep up the good work, John!

I think just simply leaving the name as "JAT Amp" actually sounds pretty good.

" JAT-13 " for the 13 transistors, reminiscent of the way watches used to count the number of jeweled movements, or "JAT-1300" for the somewhat superstitious. "JATO-13(00)" to riff on the USAF terminology ?

That's a cool name Jat-13

I think the JAT amp would be a great name. maybe a V1, or a MK 1 for your first designed amp. mike

JAT SCAT Amp: "John Audio Tech Simple Clean Audio Topology". (it even has "cat" in it.) ;-)

Errr, it also has scat in it

Just call it CAT.

I have seen some amplifiers with only two output power transistors (push-pull configuration) and an opamp at the input section besides some passive components and still can deliver upto 30 watts or so @ 4 ohms load with Split supply. So why to use so many transistors then ?

Any thoughts about measuring the noise performance?
@Gersberms5 жыл бұрын
That's looking great! You just made a strong point for active speakers, with wires only inches long the amp has much greater control. Do you think the difference in distortion compared to long speaker cables is measurable?

Does the Amplifier get loaded when the speaker output wires are shorted together, while no input signal is applied?

Can you design 6.1 channel board for 6.1 audio amplifier
@johnneybot95425 жыл бұрын
What you need to do is contact a company like Keysight and tell them you want a loner scope to do a review because you have a KZbin channel. Then you can get a piece of equipment for a period pf time for testing purposes Doing a review is also a good way to get more people to watch

Unless it's 16bit scope it won't do anything. Cheap audio interface will do much better. Also building a notch filter should work as well.
@MarkTillotson5 жыл бұрын
An audio analyzer would be far more useful and appropriate, not a 'scope.

Maybe JAT 601 for 60 watts and amp release 1 .

I'm really enjoying this series, John. How about the JAT Simon-60 as a name for the amp?

Hi John, how about JATECH ( apply wattage number here) ?

John, did you remember to short the input to ground when measuring offset voltage?
@MarkTillotson5 жыл бұрын
Its AC coupled on the input so that's not going to change anything.
@jimmydburrell5 жыл бұрын
Mark Tillotson Yes, right after the coupling caps, both hot and return should be tied to signal ground. In my experience, this makes a difference in getting an accurate DC offset measurement at the output.

Thank you so much. Do you think this could be used as a headphone amp? Can it be used in a balanced configuration?
@MarkTillotson5 жыл бұрын
60W for a headphone amp?! That's instant hearing loss if you get it wrong.
@Krmpfpks5 жыл бұрын
Mark Tillotson you don’t have to run it at 60W. I want to build a headphone amp, and I was wondering what the difference between this and a headphone amp is (apart from power) do they have a different output stage ? Or could you just use this design?

How do you work with all the crap laying around on the workbench? Your just asking for trouble..........
@demoncloud61475 жыл бұрын
At least, it's just his bench, my whole bedroom is like that workbench, few ongoing projects are on the bed ! (I sleep with them, actually. Lonely bastard (me) that sleeps with hardware - life brought me here)

Working makes clutter, its an indicator of productivity. If you always tidy things away as you go you spend 75% of the time not working!

So, by implication, the best damping factor is achieved with the shortest speaker cable.
