Laney VH100r was the best to my ears. Open, full, organic and a sweet top end presence. Probably the most underrated amp considering its incredible tone and versatility. The clean and crunch channels are awesome too

amen w pacierzu Hmm.. the end of the video did confuse me. When he says the amp #’s they don’t match with the list in the description. I guess he’s just referring to the order via his routing device. So it’s the synergy/soldano?

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter which amp is which, because you are able to make them all sound awesome. Also another killer riffing.
@n1w4

One blended the harsher and smoother sections together amazingly and probably handled the range of tones the most seemlessly imo. Two had incredible articulation and note separation, especially on the chordy parts, where it easily blew the others away imo. Three seemed a decent bit 'edgier' than the rest, accentuating the highs loads, I kinda get the feeling its an older voicing. Four had a really full bodied, rich sound, perhaps sacrificing a bit of high end, but awesome for lower rhythm work. Five was very crisp for the first riff the open C# felt very distinct, probably good for single note style riffing imo. Six was the Mesa :)

Loved the H&K most for these riffs and chorus parts. Thanks Browne for coming to the Netherlands last week. Sorry it was in this warm, smelly, sweaty basement, but you guys nailed it nonetheless!
@stefanozurich
@stefanozurich 5 жыл бұрын
They all sounded great. The noise gate on the H&K really added clarity, whether it was needed is another question. The Mesa was so dark and squishy, I thought that it really stood out. I expected the EVH to be much higher gain and have much more bite. Synergy had that special something going on. But they all sounded killer.

I'd like the Laney of it had a lower gain tube. The SLO to me wins here. Next is the H&K or 5150... Maybe the 5150 needs an adjustment or 2... Like bump up the presence or treble slightly.

Hello there John!! I'd like to ask you a question about guitar picks. As a fan of your music and your guitar work I'd love to hear your input on guitar picks, specifically if you find any significant differences between them with regards to sound as well as comfort and how are these two factors influencing the choice between the various options. It may be too much of a detail but judging by your technique it seems highly probable that you have a lot of insight on all that is guitar sound. Thanks a lot in advance!!

I’m curious about small amps vs big amps for studio work.... I see you have a lot of large amps is there a reason you shy from smaller heads? From what I understand pushing an amp is where it’s at. Is there something that doesn’t scale linearly when recording big vs small amps?
@Phantom_Communique

Hey John, I would love to hear you talk about dialing in 8-string tones in particular, and if there are any differences compared to how you go about it for 6/7 strings to handle the lower frequencies. Was the H&K Triamp used for the 8 string songs on Phronesis? And do you find any differences with higher-wattage amps like the Triamp or a Herbert vs 100 watt heads? I really admire your tone, no matter what you play. Thank you!

Looking into the rectifier preamp, as there are some good deals around. I am just wondering how close it would sound to the full dual rectifier head, if I would use the preamp with a two notes 6L6 power amp sim or something like the Seymore Duncan powerstage? Anyone have any idea, have tested this out etc? I am of course not looking for a 100% copy of that sound, just something thasounds close enough in character.

The riffhard thing seems genuinely cool. I self-identify as a rhythm player to other musicians, so it would be interesting to have content aimed at that role in a band. However, $30 a month seems steep. Thats like hulu+spotify+netflix combined (I only pay for spotify atm). As much as I love playing guitar, I can't justify that in my budget. I get the feeling I'm not alone, either.
@JohnBrownemonuments
@JohnBrownemonuments 5 жыл бұрын
Everything you just listed isn't comparable. Riffhard is not a source of entertainment, it is a dedicated teaching environment which gives you 24/7 access to the tools that will make you a better guitarist... IF you put the time in. Consider how much people pay per hour for a driving lesson, how much you pay per hour for a 1 on 1 guitar lesson. That makes 30$ seem cheap right? I mean, I spent nearly £1000 on learning to drive which would be over 4 years of 24/7 access to getting better at guitar. It's all about if you feel you really want to improve your own skill set but most people would make a serious advancement in 3 years. $30 for a continuous monthly subscription where you can re watch everything as many times as you need is actually insanely cheap to learn everything that is on there... Techniques, The down picking gym, Songwriting, Monthly competitions where you can win stuff while you learn as well as having the opportunity for me to work on your song live in front of all of the community. And to compare, 30$ would just about get you a 1-on-1 1 hour guitar lesson in the western world... or a couple of months of Netflix and chill. I understand it's not for everyone, it's all down to what you consider priority. I do appreciate your feedback though!

@@JohnBrownemonuments Thanks for responding! I am totally convinced the service is top notch. You've struck a vein of guitarists that rarely get attention by focusing on the craft of rhythm guitar. The Angus Youngs of the world get so much attention, but they're nothing without a Malcolm behind them. I practice hard, but I know it's invaluable to have some guidance. However, I'm a poor college kid, and $30 is a tank of gas, or food for 5 days. My own circumstances prevent me from committing, but I certainly would be inclined to subscribe to the service if I were better-off than I am right now. LOVE the new album! It immediately went into my metal playlist and will stay there. Cheers, from Iowa

I don't hear significant difference between those amps (in general for the riff you play, (between some of them theres serious difference)). Amp1 is my Number 1, amp2 - is darker (I own Triamp Mk1) , but in a good way. Amp3 sit between 1and 2. Amp4 is ok, nothing special. Amp5 - interesting. Amp6 - maybe last in my list too.
