If they adapted the novels faithfully and in-period for streaming, with the sort of meticulous production values seen in Mad Men, I'd be up for that. And 1980s John Gardner Bond certainly could be fun for those of us who grew up with the Roger Moore incarnation. I think the character in the modern day is done though. After SPECTRE and No Time to Die, I have no interest in seeing any more present day Bond films. They've killed the character, literally and metaphorically. He might as stay dead.
@Regantdarcy2 күн бұрын
@ I always associated Bond with theatrical releases. But i guess streaming is the reality now. Seems like the Broccolis aren't fans of streaming tho. So it may be awhile until the next Bond film comes out. Although i heard that the Broccolis did want a younger Bond and perhaps setting the time in the 60s. As long as the release was theatrical first. Connery was the OG Bond. And i thought Craig did a great job. But killing off his Bond didn't sit well with me. I grew up in the fun Campy Roger Moore era, so those Bond films will always remind me of my childhood. In fact they often released the New Bond film on Nov 22nd which is my birthday. My Dad took me to see Live & Let Die for my 8th Birthday and i thought it was the coolest thing ever. I remember Bond unzipping a buxom woman's dress with his magnetic watch & the villain Katanga flying up to the ceiling and exploding after swallowing a compressed air bullet. 😂 I have read all the original Fleming books and would love to see more faithful adaptations to them as well. Although in the book, Dr. No dies when a crate of Bat guano 🦇 💩 falls on him and not by being lowered into a vat of radioactive liquid like in the Connery movie. 😂 The Gardner novels were fun as well. I wouldn't mind a long form streaming series of a young Bond. But i also hope we get regular theatrical releases of a new Bond film every couple of years as well. It's tradition!

Do you tire of the same story about a guy who isn't made for our time? Given that our societies aren't as accepting to misogyny, sexism, and war compared to past years, is it really "disrespectful" to kill James Bond? I doubt 1964's Bond movie , where the main character sexually forces himself on a female, is acceptable today. How many times must a fictional character like James Bond "narrowly" escape the "clutches of death" before becoming redundant? No Amazon has adjusted their movie strategy an announced that they are gonna push for about 12 major theatrical releases per year - they already had quite a few wide releases in theatres last year. The marketing campaigns for theatrical releases carry over to streaming, as the success of Red One on Prime Video shows. And as long as you make back the cost of distribution and marketing, it's a better business case too. Streaming only releases for movies with a 100mio+ budget is simply not logical for anyone in the entertainment industry besides Netflix.
@cybergornstartrooper21575 күн бұрын
@@derg6222 putting movies into release isn’t free, a movie needs to make back about 3x its budget to break even. Bond movie budgets are usually around 250mil, and make about 800mil ish back. It will be tough for any actor to follow in Daniel Craig’s footsteps right now. In the '80s or '90s, it was easier to replace an actor, but today, it’s much harder for any actor to step into the role and for fans to love it. Handing the reins to Christopher Nolan would bring fresh air to the franchise and get fans excited again. He could deliver an exceptional trilogy that revitalizes James Bond. Additionally, there might be a rift between the Broccoli family and Amazon regarding Christopher Nolan. Nolan has publicly expressed his desire to direct a James Bond movie. What if what they are fighting the Brocoli family on is theatrical release? I know that is crazy to think. But it would be a fair reason for them to say Amazon are F idiots.

It's a Bond Cinematic Universe that Amazon wants. They want the Marvel/DC/Star Trek/Star Wars treatment with it. I am a lifelong 007 fan ever since I played GoldenEye 007 on the Nintendo 64 and Tomorrow Never Dies was the first Bond film I saw when I was five or six years old. And as a lifelong Bond fan, a cinematic universe is probably one of the most idiotic decisions you can make. I may love Bond, but even I can admit that the franchise IS NOT big or expansive enough to do a cinematic universe in the same vain as Marvel, DC, Star Trek, or Star Wars. As much as I love CIA Agent Felix Leiter, I cannot think of anybody clamoring for a film or television spinoff with him...

Apart from the 8 known 00's though, but then you run the risk of James bond look alikes
@angeloplayforone5 күн бұрын
Exactly, the other characters are simply weak characters to support the main characters. Problem is that Amazon does not understand what they have brought, which tells why they are idiots.
@Exaldear5 күн бұрын
@angeloplayforone it's worse, they think the secret is in what Disney/marvel has done which is still unique (no one else has had the success they've had). Not everything can be a universe, comics work because they have such an expanded cast. And when they're allowed to take their time they pump out quality. DC rushed but under Gunn/Safron should be good. But not everything can be a universe and Bond is one of those. Bond is an event film, like mission impossible. While I think it could go on without Tom Cruise you still wouldn't have a Simon Pegg spin off. Renner I think might take over though. If they want universes use Tom Clancy for that. Give us a Jack Ryan teaming up with Reacher, or Reacher getting inbeded with the Ghosts. Ghosts and Rainbow series with Jack Ryan overseeing it?

Looking at the general quality of Amazon films I wouldn’t want them anywhere near my IP. Actually that goes for Netflix and Disney as well

I can only imagine some of the lame ideas Amazon studios is bringing forward with “Modern sensibilities” That we all know are terrible for James Bond. Just remember folks. The very character of James Bond is now problematic. Let’s not give audiences what they want. 🙄
@richiemanuta19728 күн бұрын
A long break might benefit the IP but then again drama behind the curtain rarely benefits the finished product.
@briancasiano8578 күн бұрын
If they want a female of gay bond then make them a 006 or 008 and create a new character in the bond verse. Then you can keep the good old bond and maybe so so crossovers while staying true to the original .

There’s a 50-50 percent share, 50 to Eon and 50 to Amazon, the original 50% that Amazon has is from Harry Saltzman from when he sold off his share.

Wrong. The Broccolis have American accents. Born and bred in the US for the most part. I've heard them in multiple interviews.

To be fair, this is coming from the same Barbara Broccoli that rejected Radioheads masterpiece of a song for Spectre for that awful Sam Smith song.

She's made mistakes but Bond should be kept in the family- it's one of the keys to the franchises longevity- and one of the last examples of independent producing in mainstream filmmaking.
@nickoftimeproductions87198 күн бұрын
That wasn’t really her fault. Radiohead didn’t send them the song until after Sam Smith wrote and recorded his song and they had already finished the title sequence which was made specifically for Sam Smith’s. Just bad timing on Radiohead’s part.

They need to keep Bond in the universe of the novels. I not saying keep it hardline 1950's and 60's or adapt one of the novels again, but keep it in the retro style of mid-century espionage and danger. Bond himself can't really be altered that much or you're going to lose the core audience. This new Bond needs to be embraced the way Brosnan was in the 90's. The look, the presence, the attitude and the intellect from the books all need to be present. 🎥 🎬

@fidelitycreate7 күн бұрын
Obviously I don't know what the disagreement is about but I would bet money that it is Amazon demanding some ridiculous changes and the Broccolis are just protecting who and what James Bond is. I for one, fully support gate keeping the fundamentals of what makes a franchise what made it in the first place. However, I also support compromises. For example, if you want a black or female 007 then just create an original character that takes the codename from Bond after he retires or is killed in a blaze of glory. James Bond will always be a straight white male who is swarve, sophisticated, brave and trained to kill for his country. He also has to have non committed romantic relationships with attractive women. Break these fundamentals and you break Bond

Agreed! Bond did die. Maybe it is best to leave Bond in the past and move onto something else.
@DomH752 күн бұрын
@@thehidden6532 Yeah, I'm fine with retiring the character. Bond really finished with Timothy Dalton. Pierce Brosnan was an amusing tribute band act and Daniel Craig a false new dawn who made two decent films.

@@DomH75 , aside from the "death" scene, things got confusing when Daniel Craig first played Bond during a soft reboot while answering to the same "M" who managed actor Pierce Brosnan's 007 version.

What I don’t get with Hollywood is if you wanna make a female James Bond then cool do it. But it doesn’t have to be James Bond. It can just be a rip off with a twist. There’s been plenty of good ripoffs with twist throughout history. I know John ‘s favorite is the fast and the furious/point break

I strongly suggest that people look at damn fool idealistic Crusaders video Honestly, I’d like to see Eon buy Harry Saltzman‘s 50% which is currently owned by Amazon, I don’t know how feasible that is though. This is basically just a throwdown between Barbara broccoli and Michael G Wilson Vs Jennifer Salke. Jennifer wants “content“ and that’s what rubbed Barbara the wrong way. People do realise that Barbara and Michael are American right?
