Thanks for your list. A lot of content in little time - that's the way I like it. You especially motivated me to dump Elementor and rather go with Gutenberg blocks. After all the fancier a web site is the less content it appears to have. And I have some content to show. :)

Really nice. You have explained it so well. Can you tell me if any of the plugins would impact page speed ?
@johncreates5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Foodies Terminal! The plugins I recommend are all pretty light weight, but they might add a small amount of code to your page (since that's what they're for hehe). I'd recommend trying 1 or 2, and running some speed tests to see if you're still happy

This was the most helpful thing I've found on Wordpress all week! Quick question. I'm trying to get my home page to show the custom excerpt (not the first paragraph) for the most recent posts. It looks like it may be using Gutenberg by default but I don't see where I can change this. Can one of this plugins or another additional Gutenberg plugin help me?
@johncreates5 жыл бұрын
For your home page are you just using the default wordpress blog roll, or are you using a page builder to display posts? Depending on how you are displaying them, there should be options. In general when you display a post grid or list, you should be able to select between showing ALL CONTENT which will go until you put the read more tag, or an excerpt of a specific length. Hope this helps!

Hey John! Thanks for explaining all of this- very helpful. I'm a bit of a beginner and I'm curious if you can recommend a free theme for that'll work with a woocommerce shop and blogging? I sell on Etsy and I'm trying to build a blog/store and I feel like I'll do really well with the new structure as it's similar to Google Sites. Thanks in advance!

Hi John, I have been looking at the videos you have placed here on KZbin a,d the course you have on your own website. But I do have a question to ask - Do you know if Gutenberg blocks are fully accessible, ie: can be used with people who use screen readers etc? Thank you for any advice. Cheers John
@johncreates5 жыл бұрын
Wow great question that I have never researched. I do know that I can navigate the editor almost entirely with the keyboard, but there are times where you definitely want the mouse to select different options. When you say accessibility does that mean never using a mouse?
@TLCOnlineChannel5 жыл бұрын
@@johncreates Hi John, No I think you have the wrong end of the stick, I am asking, when the page has been designed by Guttenberg and you publish the page/post is it then accessible by people using your website and reading the content via a screen reader? Doing some research on this exact subject it seems that Guttenberg is not 100% accessible yet. But government agencies around the world are starting to look for their websites to be fully accessible. Cheers John

Awesome post! Thanks :-) question: does installing all these plugins make the entire install heavier? Slower on the front end?
@johncreates6 жыл бұрын
It should be negligible - Gutenberg block plugins are very tiny in size when you compare it to the size of page builders. And on the front end, everything is converted to html code for being displayed by the browser, so some plugins could produce sloppier code than others, but from the testing I have done, Gutenberg was the fastest of the page builders that I tested in this experiment: kzbin.info/www/bejne/apnGiKpvjquWibc

These are cool and I look forward to checking them out. QQ If we add and use Block Plugins, what happens to our posts if we decide later to uninstall a particular block? Is the code still there or will the content in blocks from that plug-in be broken or missing?

"Custom Color Palettes for Gutenberg" is Palette, not Palettes, which might explain not seeing that one. But it's at version 1.0, hasn't been updated for 5 months, and is showing as not having been tested with my (current) version of Wordpress.

Installing plugins slows down sites. Sometimes, DRAMATICALLY. What will happen if you use one of the plugins you mentioned here and deactivate it after you're done constructing a page/site?
@johncreates4 жыл бұрын
You are left with short codes where you used the plugin. This is a pretty universal statement and it's why I always recommend to be thoughtful about what you install and to make sure you don't be too redundant with your functionality
