The same thing happened to me. I was busy working, so I asked my girlfriend if she could get up early and pick up the Spider-Man steelbook for me. Best Buy told her they never got it. I was pissed off but also felt bad that I made my girlfriend get up early for nothing. Now I’m stuck with the crappy standard blu-ray cover with Spider-Man and Doctor Strange on it. 😞 Still though, shoutout to my gf for getting up early for me to pick the movie up.

That is very odd that not all of their physical media isn’t put in stores. You make a good point. Though I don’t own one myself I have noticed there aren’t as many steel books on the shelves in any of those stores these days. I thought I bought a 4K player this past Christmas but found out later the guy at Walmart didn’t know what he was talking about. Now I just have a new 4K upscale blu ray player. If I had got one though No Way Home would’ve have been one of the 4K movies I would’ve bought.

I went to our local Best Buy to try to surprise my husband with the steel book. SUPER ticked still that they didn't give the stores copies. The associate humored me and went to the back to check though 🙄🤣 I unfortunately came home with the 💩web version, too. Our son was overjoyed and thought it was hilarious, so silver lining?! Ha! The same thing happened with the Dune 4k steelbook. I deserve the Spiderman 4k because all the stores in my area don't have slipcovers on ANY of the No Way Home discs.

I too tried to to get a Steelbook from either Best Buy or Zavvi, but I figured they’d be sold out. I’m also not a fan of the standard 4K slipcover. So I got the 4K from Amazon UK instead for their standard plastic case has better artwork than the one we have.

There are a number of sites that offer custom cover art for Blu-Ray & DVD. If you are concerned with the artwork, I highly suggest going that route. I did it back when I collected physical media and I still have some of the covers. The custom Star Wars art was just too good to get rid of.

The most baffling thing about that slipcover is it has been changed to be wrong on purpose. That image, with the buildings rotated so that they imitate a Doc Ock arm hand and with the webbing in front of Spider-Man, is online.

When you talked about your thoughts on Walmart, I think about this time, around 20 years ago, I went to a Walmart and one of the employees was walking around the store talking to himself. I feel you on the physical media rant. I'm honestly at this point getting sick of big bloated corporations like Best Buy, and have come to realize that no one running the places knows anything about movies or games... or really anything except fiscal charts and profit margins. Their Black Friday has become a sludge of nothing, unlike the good old days 10 or so years ago when you'd find worthwhile movies from 1 to 5 bucks. Now its all that "$9.99 and up" shelves like that's somehow a favor! What a bunch of shameless douchebags. IMHO, it's best to stick with smaller Indy physical media companies that actually care about movies, like Shout Factory, Scream Factory, Arrow Video, Blue Underground, etc. Sure it's mostly online, but I'd prefer to give them my money over bloated studios like Sony or Universal who dont bother releasing physical copies in stores because Karen from Soccerville USA doesnt care about movies and is more interested in an overpriced blender.
