#1 - As a felon, I can't carry a Swiss Army knife. #2 - Emotionally, I can't carry a grip head. It's what I beat my mother-in-law to de*th with to become a felon. #3 - Emotionally, again, I used makeup to keep my mother-in-law looking alive so her husband would just think she FINALLY shut up. #4 - It's probably obvious what I used that one for. #5 - I used a couple A-clamps to hold her to the chair. #6 - Wrapped it around her to make double-sure she stayed put. Well, that was my bad humor for the day. Honestly, thanks for the great tips. Your videos really are helpful... and your skills are amazing!

A-Clamps definitely come in clutch! Only thing I'm missing is the makeup, so I'm off to a good start, lol.

Thanks for the video, John. I really appreciate your advice based on real-world experience. Of course, I always carry gaffer's tape and a multitool but I would never have thought to carry a strobe sync cable. It's tiny and I can totally see it saving the day in a pinch. Ordered.

Thanks James! I think the cable I unwrapped may have come with my lights for free.

I always have my multitool with me, it have saved me countless times. The pliers that is part of it that you don't get with a regular swiss army knife is probably the tool I use the most.

Good point. I don’t think of that.

What have you used the plyers for?

I’ve over rightened a light stand knob on a light and had to use plaits to get the light off the stand.

@@BrianHallmond over tightened knobs is the most common thing. In the studio they have been handy when disassembling softboxes that didn't want to cooperate, I have also straightened out a reflector that wasn't as round as it should have been. Just put something between the pliers and metal to avoid scratches. When I'm outside it happens that small things needs fixing that the pliers does best. If you have the tool the jobs have a tendency to creep up on you...

Great point about fixing reflectors Onetime I didn't have pliars and i was working on location and realized the flash mount on a beauty dish was bent. So I had to send my assistant to Home Depot.

For similar reasons I also have with me at all times: safety pins 🧷, masking tape and cable ties, almost forgot, also wet wipes, always handy to keep hands clean as well as a sticky roller brush to clean garments.

Good stuff, I usually have mini a clamps in my case for the same reason you probably have safety pins.

I was on a job last week and somehow the Pocketwizards didn't make it to the job, that PC cable worked great, it took me back to the old times.

@@JohnGress To me being professional means being prepared, yes I should have had the triggers but when I didn't I had a built-in plan B. You have an awesome channel BTW

Thanks! I forgot my fancy triggers on an hour door HSS shoot! Once I started teaching in person workshops I added some no sophisticated wireless triggers to my bag for attendees but those couldn’t save me.
