Yes, you need to learn basic drawing first before going into painting.. shades, form and perspective is important.. but you can also learn it.

This is my favorite lesson so far! I appreciate how you explain things. Your such an awesome artist. My daughter painted a scenery of mountains in background and a moose in the foreground but there’s no texture or detail Her mountains in the background is like your. So this was a big help for how I can finish her painting by painting a similar micro world on the moose antlers and try to make the moose itself more real looking while the background is more fantasy like yours. i just bought my canvas from art store.. normally it has gesso primed. but you can add 1 layer to make it smooth and sand it. then you can spray with water 5 minutes you start to paint

I don't know how I feel about this piece by John my very first reaction ...I didn't like it...still don't it's a reflection of cruelty to animals....and such? Out of all the comments I just read your the ONLY one who wrote something with common sense and thought. Reading everyone's comments gives a sense of just how cruel the human being really is... Everyone has such joy to see this...very troubling ... John what is your meaning behind this? If it's not a good one I suggest you take it down. We don't need this especially now so many dying and so many who need help...yet many walk around like it's nothing riding bikes going on about their day as though their on vacation. While Drs and nurses are working around the clock not knowing if they too maybe get infected... The younger generation better wake up and have compassion for others....
