@maureenobrien78952 жыл бұрын
Early mayer only played blues on electric guitar! Unlike Jerry Garcia who made a living playing folk music on acoustic guitar for years in 61- 64 & the rest of his life! Also played Banjo in the best Bluegrass band EVER! Played Pedal Steel Guitar in 1960's 70's & even in 1980's with Dylan! Was said to be one of the greatest ever in playing with NRPS & Dead & on everyone's album you can think of that asked him to play it with them!! As Parish says he could pick up any stringed instrument he chose and play better than most!! I bet he is playing Harp right now in heaven for the angels!!! I love new young deadheads!! Please have the decency to read a frw good books specifically on the HISTORY of. JERRY GARCIA and the rest of the ORIGINAL GRATEFUL DEAD AND THERE EVOLUTION OVER MANY YEARS!!! It's a great & fun read I did it when I was 14 when I first became a dead head cos I couldn't wait to know! Also the "Electric Kool Aid Acid Tests" and "On the Road". Those youngins that think that dead & co and mayer are all there is to it & they are the best thing some dead members ever did??? Are sorely lacking in knowledge!! I just saw Dead & Co their last nite In. NY at Citifield. I flew home to NYC to see them coss a BFF invited me to go & stay for aweek at hi house! Great show, sets, sounded like the good ol Grateful Dead again to me! They come a long way! Or maybe it was the 2 hits of blotter I did!-😉

what a cool thing, what a cool setting...can barely hear Weirs guitar, Mayer carrying the musical load...love Weir, he is a super player in a band setting but his style of playing in a situation like this seems to require more "chunka chunka chunka", as Garcia once said of him
@robertledbetter37992 жыл бұрын
I agree. I play and was really turned on to how good Weirs playing really was when there was that doc about him. But trying to learn his parts without a band to play with, or even to join, is a waste of time. It’s just parts of chords and little licks that fit in with a band, but solo, playing exactly like Bobby, you can hardly tell what song you’re playing. Listen to some isolated guitar of his. It’s so weird. It’s awesome. But again, without the band you can hardly tell what song they’re playing. That said my favorite eras are largely about Bobby. I loved his early tone in the primal Dead era and also loved- the most- the one drummer/Keith lineup because it was the most audible Bobby was in the band’s mix. You can really hear his McCoy Tyner influence on things like for instance the Veneta Playin in the Band.
@seanhennessey98692 жыл бұрын
@@robertledbetter3799 little triads, inversions and diatonic runs, you can do your own version of that style, which is what I do....sometimes I think he plays too busily, but definitely a big influence

Controversial take coming….NOTHING but respect to Bobby, but the tempo is what’s holding the new wave of dead from coming out. There’s some very talented musicians that wanna breathe new life into the Dead but the old guard slows it down for just old times sake. I love Bobby Weir and everything he has done and will always represent for the Dead. The legend will always be there but there is a new set of Jedi padawans ready to bring the Force into a new age. Billy Strings, Johnny, Otiel and the crew are ready to dawn a new age of dead-I masters. Let there be songs to fill the air 🙌
