Would definitely go for these! Only need a single socket and all the tools get a plug. So overall only little more than twice the price and still affordable. Would clean up so many cables! Might as well get one of those furring clamp down pliers while I’m at it to do it properly! Love this solution

Brilliant! I didn’t know these quick connectors existed to be honest, I have a load of cabled power tools in drawers and have lost count of the times the cables get tangled - meaning that if I have to take one thing out of the drawer I pretty much have to take everything out at once. Definitely going to look into getting some of these!

Very useful information. I managed to cut through the power cord of a circular saw. What fun. I repaired it using a connector purchased from B&Q (in the UK) but the connection is quite bulky and does not lock. The connector is rated at 15 amp so should be safe but now that you have provided this information I shall replace it with either the Neutrik or the Knightsbridge. I am not sure which way I made the connection so now I know how to do it safely. Thank you for the information.

just found your channel via a mention on Woodworking UK, I didn't know these connectors existed, it is a brilliant idea especially coupled with dust extraction. Thanks for making the video I will be converting my major power tools as soon as I can.

Thanks so much for this - just what I needed. However please note that on the ones I bought the connections need a T8 torx bit not a T7. I only had a T6 and T8 and was about to leave to go out and buy a T7 but on checking it the T8 deffo fits.

I fitted 9 of the Knightsbridge over the weekend and I am well pleased with the budget version. Most of my tools are out of warranty and budget tools so the cheaper version of the "quick" connector was a good choice for me. I still have about 4 more to fit sometime in the future. Great video again and so useful to your viewers... Cheers John

Nice video, there are a few connectors out there for this. I used the Buccaneer series from Bulgin which are available from the likes of RS and Digikey. They are another twist lock version, but are quite a coarse thread so are reasonably quick to undo and do up. Price is similar to the Powercon connectors.

@@nigelboucher2014 if you search for NEUTRIK NAC3MX-W. You will find numerous suppliers. That part number is for the male plug. The female number is NAC3FX-W. They start at around £6 each. Hope this helps. I’ve just bought 4 off eBay.

I'm actually really glad you made this video John. I had been going down the IEC connector route - but on the basis of your last video I ordered an Knightsbridge connector. It's ok, but my biggest worry is the plastic thread getting mangled with use. Also, you can't use boot lace ferrules with them - or at least not the insulated kind. with a sleeve, whereas you can with a Neutrik. With an IEC it's not an issue as I would just use moulded connectors with the cable on (makes for a smaller lump than the rewireable ones too). I have a Neutrik connector pair on order and will evaluate all three (because I'm like that). Your video appears to have caused a run on the things though, RS UK are quoting a 3 week lead time! Also, can I suggest you start using the terminology 'Plugs and sockets' to refer to the gender of the connector itself, and 'pins and receptacles' to refer to the gender of the contacts - as you're aware from industry all four combinations are possible!

Nice prompt response to the Neutrik fanboys !! You can also get panel mounts for Neutrik. I've got a couple with a view to modifying my older sanders so that the plug is "moulded" into the handle, but this will invalidate warranty so older tools only.

Brillant. £8 in january for the connectors, now over £15 lol (amazon, up a fiver up since your video!).. Can you do a video on my house, I'd love that increase. Edit.. all good, just found on ebay, I'm a tad confuddled on the naming of the Male and Female parts ? Many thanks for this fantastiche channel. :)

Bulgin Barracuda 4000 plugs and sockets are smaller, cheaper, IP68 and quarter turn lock. For some tools the panel mount socket will fit in place of the tool cable flexible outlet, so no tail.

Thanks, this seems like a really good connector. A question relating to the Bosch/Festool thing: Have you tried doing a 45 degree bevel cut on the festool track? I read that the pivot points are different on the two saws, and that the Bosch saw does not follow the same cut line on the Festool track as when doing a 90 degree cut :(
@JohnMcGrathManInShed

It only matters if you have both saws and are using them on the same track. They both cut through the rubber strip in a different place.

I have a question about that black sleeve, so perhaps I should've asked it at the previous video, but is that stuff wear resistant? I can imagine with a lot of sanding it will endure quite the abuse?

In your previous video you said the connectors were not suitable for machines but you have used them for your spindle sander. What watt limit would you suggest or is it just any tool that draws less than 16A?

I saw this video a while back and thought it was such a good idea that I have fitted the connectors to quite a few tools. I have also made up a few different lengths of power leads. I have fitted each with a 13 amp fuse, which is appropriate for my big router etc but should I swap the fuse for use with lighter tools eg jigsaw? (Major pita and likely to get forgotten).

Following on from others comments, search for neutrik powercon in your favourite places. Btw some are rated at 20 amp

You said they are four times the price but that's only if you need an equal number of sockets and plugs. If you only need one socket and several plugs, the plugs are only twice the price.

Do not take the two halves apart before putting them on the cable. That way the the rubber grommet will not push through and and release the spring.

I think the second connector's are great but in my opinion I'd rather have and use the first kind and it's not because of the costs involved. It's simply because the first type is ip68 rated and we all like a coffee or a drink of pop at sometime during the work day and I just like the fact that if I was to accidentally knock a drink onto the power tool or the power cable at the very least it's protected!!!
@michaelcummins5974
@michaelcummins5974 3 жыл бұрын
Ip65 is plenty sufficient for that scenario. Ip68 is really only needed when you'll be using the connectors outside in the rain, basically.

I’ve just made up a long (10 m) trailing lead with a Neutrik plug on the end and a short (200 mm) adapter with a Neutrik connector on one end and a regular 3 pin “trailing” socket on the other. That way I can use the lead with my Neutrik-converted tools and also with those I haven’t converted yet (still under warranty etc).
