Someone once posted that when driving a car, it’s like you’re watching a movie, but when riding a motorcycle, you’re actually in the movie. That’s the best way for me to describe riding to someone who never has! Keep on enjoying the ride!

You're right about miles per day. Whatever is enjoyable. I've had 800 mile days that were fantastic and 250 mile days that were brutal. Traffic, weather, construction, etc. Plus early start and early stop and I never had to worry about getting a motel room. Great video.

Hi John. Good inspirational video. For us if we are going for more than several days or more than 400 miles we usually trailer the spider to our home base hotel and day trip from there. Being part of the environment makes the ride. We just got back from the western part of the Blue Ridge Parkway and loved the feelings you described. I wish I could encourage our local riding group ( great people and love being with them) but it’s too much how fast can we get to the destination not how can we take our time and enjoy the ride. Working on them. See you soon at Big Meadow. Ray & Linda

We have the same problem with our local group, Ray. Don’t enjoy riding to the point of exhaustion. Looking forward to seeing you and Linda next month!

Hi John, I noticed you mentioned “life budget”. I, like you, am an obsessive planner. To the extreme some would say. I take great satisfaction from making long-term plans. Would you care to share some methods you use for long-term life planning? Of course not looking for numbers but more along the lines of the templates and methods you use to work out budgets and goals etc. Also, how do you stay focused on long-term without becoming impatient? I’m looking at a 7 year goal right now and sure could use some tips…
@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog3 жыл бұрын
Frank, Thanks for asking. That is a big question. my fear is to run out of money and not be able to live a quality life before I die. So I have a budget to take me to age 99. When I start to draw from my retirement investment, I will use what I call a "burn down rate", I factor in growth, and withdraws so I will use it all up on my 99th birthday. I also have a 1 year, 2 year plan, a 5 year outlook and my "strategic life budget". As to long-term plans; example, we are looking at an RV. That will take about 2 to 5 years. I keep focused by putting away money for it every month (Will pay cash). but still doing lots of traveling before we get the RV. I learned from my mom and dad. very very frugal, but after saving everything for retirement and postponing joy, when they reached the magic age and savings amount, they were too old and ill to enjoy life. So rather than saving for a high-end new diesel RV, we are targeting a used gas Class c or a van. You have given me a great idea for a video,,, thanks.

@@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog Hi John, thanks for that detailed reply… Somehow I’d expect nothing less lol😄 I too was afraid of outliving the money, we are a bit younger than you folks but are looking forward to the long term. We have a 7 year goal of my wife retiring and me retiring 5 years later at 65 (slightly early). The big goal is paying cash for our retirement house at the end of 7 years. I’m in a less than ideal location now but am trying to stay motivated for those years with that goal in mind. Should also be able to fund retirement vehicles and 2 new Spyders to replace the ones we have by then. As for the burn-down rate… if things hold as they are the withdrawal should remain smaller that the growth. In all, we are blessed. Just trying to persevere thru these next 7 years….

Been looking at the spyder and dreaming. Local shop has a trailer to hook on behind the trike but wondering how it will affect fuel mileage and handling?
@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog3 жыл бұрын
I have been bad at keeping records on milage. I can tell you, as to handling, I do not even know the trailer is behind me. Even in the high cross winds in north TX on my 2019 ride. very stable.

What about hitting potholes at speed?
@JohnMiriamsTravelVlog3 жыл бұрын
More stressful than anything. I worry about tire damage and knocking the alignment out, but so far, no issues. It does not effect handling, other than a jolt.
