It's great how quick you move, John. It's easy to pause or rewind a video when following along, but it's rough when someone is moving slow on purpose, for the sake of people following along. Appreciate your quickness!

@ min 2:25, an alternative workflow is to perform a simple buffer operation using the Polygon Notes for input, and for Side Type, select 'Exclude the input polygon from buffer' and make the distance massive! Love these vids!!

Genius! I will try this, thanks!

Really nice video, I enjoy your content. Another good option for centering the two images in Map frame properties in display option there is location settings for center.

Damn....thought there was bonus content. Saw there was still 35 seconds left after you said “have fun!.” Still great anyway. Thanks!

Excellent tutorial. I'd love to see something similar with 3d for use with extruded cutouts for mountains and such and not just 2d with shadows if that is possible in ArcGIS pro.

off the top of my head, you can totally do this. there are a couple ways to consider. the first is to use the not-area-of-interest layer as a "masking" layer to your content. but really, if i'm understanding you right, the technique in this video would work in 3D too. except you wouldn't get the sub-surface geologic layers of course.

@@JohnNelsonMaps I'm definitely going to give this a try. I was very inspired by your video about using ArcGIS Pro maps to make 3d printed cutouts, but I could not figure out a way to make 3d cutouts of specific objects just in ArcGIS for something like a state or small country using border polygons to make an accurate cutout. It worked in 2d, but in 3d I only found a way to make a square extent cutout. I want to make a nice thick mountainous cutout of some countries that would then be available to put all kinds of fun 3d points on and view them from multiple angles. If this method will allow this then that is awesome. Thanks!

@@danwdoo sounds like a fun project! i have planned a video for 3d that will do something vaguely similar, maybe that will help. www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/WY3D-tiltshift.jpg

@@JohnNelsonMaps That is very close to what I am hoping to accomplish. I just hope I can easily cut it out to the shape of a polygon (country shape) and make the base have some thickness like a nice slice of mapping pie =). I'm looking forward to your video, as always!
@JohnNelsonMaps3 жыл бұрын
@@danwdoo yes, the thick base map pie is the tricky bit.
