And even though his name is still missing in the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame alongside other greats like him, it doesn’t change the fact that to us, he will always be one of the best to have ever done it. He may be always overlooked and greatly under-rated,, but he surely, surely knows how high we will always rank him.

Crazy story. I work in a little Neighborhood called Scottdale outside of Atlanta. One day I was bumping some Johnie Taylor and this lady pulled up on me crying. Come to find out it was one of his daughters and she lives in the area. That's my daddy, that's my daddy!! She said it made her day hearing a young man playing his music.

I grew up in the 90s in a small rural town in East Texas and as a kid Johnie Taylor and similar blues singers was the only music I knew. Some of the best shade tree blues you’d hear. I value my childhood and the way I was raised because of the blues. Nobody’s a bigger fan of JT than me. I had all his cds by the 2nd grade. I also remember hearing him on KKDA radio station. My uncle and I would listen every morning on our drive from Dallas to the country to work our cows.

They made music when music was straight from the soul without all the new-fangled technical quirks. Back in the day folks who could sing and share their talent whenever and wherever the spirit moved. Didn't need a stage, theater lights, fancy microphone, and "all that jazz." Great artists Sam, Johnny, Lou Rawls, and another protegee' of Sam's who idolized him was the wonderful Bobby Womack.
