Thank you VERY much for this comparison! People need to know that (IMHO) they’re paying $100+ more for the Blue that may not be as good as the Green! A couple of things: my Green Label bottles say it’s 43% abv (86 proof). They may have to sell it at 80 proof in Scotland and other places. And here in the Atlanta area, Green Label is $49.99 before tax in several stores, while I’ve seen Blue Label at only one store (Total Wine), and it’s over $200 there. The sample bottles were $20, and I figured I could put that money to better use to get 750ml of something else, so I haven’t tried the Blue yet. Having said that, the Green Label is reasonably priced, but it sells out FAST. Three stores in my area got some, two sold out in two days. The third store went from 12 bottles to three in three days, so I picked up a second bottle in case I don’t see any more for a while. I don’t get any peat note on the GL, but I agree with your other notes, and it’s really smooth, as a 15 yr. should be. I recommend Green Label as an ‘entry’ Scotch for newcomers to Scotch or those who say they don’t like peat. Apologies for the “mansplaining”, and thanks again for the much needed comparison review.

Thanks for putting this review together. The Green Label works well when I yearn for a sort of “all in one dram”. I dare say I liken it to a Leatherman of scotch; it has a bit of everything in it and it offers up tidbits of bourbon with puffs of peat. Great review concept! Keep up the great work. PS definitely agree a Blue Label is best beta tested at a bar. I took the plunge on a $20 mini. Been there. Done that.

Great video. The prices quoted are far from what I've seen though; the Green is around $45 and the Blue is $230. So the disparity in cost is considerably larger from my experience.

Wow, really cheap by comparison! I would even consider buying a bottle of Blue, wherever that is.

Thanks, I like this comparison! Wouldn't mind trying Blue Label one day, but the price is just too whacky (just look at what else you can get for $150+!). The Green Label is pretty good; however, there are plenty of 10-12-year-old single malts that I would much rather buy, to be honest.
@whiskycentral

For sure. If I had to buy something in the JW range, it would be the Green label, but if I had $70, I would buy a Clynelish or something like that instead.

Enjoyed your review. I need to give JWG a chance. I have tried JWB several times. Your review was in consensus with many other reviews. That the Blue is overpriced for what it delivers compared to othe good whiskies available at a lesser price. I found something in Blue though I have yet to get from another whiskey. The initial mouthful was not impressive and had some indistinct flavors. But I was very surprised by the second and third swallows. Some very unique and rare traits came out. I would describe it as umami. I was wondering if any of your viewers or you would have some suggestions of other whiskeys that might have that character.
@whiskycentral
@whiskycentral 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I know what you mean on the JWB. I think there is a nice balance of peat. You might like a Mortlach, Ledaig 10, Port Charlotte 10, Talisker 10, Ardbeg Corry, or uigeadail. Also, you might enjoy Nikka from the barrel, it's not like the others I mention, but it has a little something to it. Haha. You can always email me or comment if you have more questions. I hope this helps. :)

The Green is between $50-60 in NJ and for a 15 year old i think its a pretty good whiskey and a good buy. Sure their are other whiskies in that price range i gravitate to (pick any core range Islay) but its a well made blend although tougher to find it seems these days.
@whiskycentral
@whiskycentral 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I don't think it should be priced that high, but It's a decent blend. If there you have access to other blnded malts like compass box or douglas laing those would be better options. Cheers Dale!

Haven't had the Green for a while but think I remember the label is a bit ambiguous with the wording so the named distillerys are not the only ones they use. Makes sense that they leave room to blend a consistent product from the many distillerys they have to draw from. Never tried the blue as never see minis.
