Never be afraid to take a break!!! My trick when things aren't going well is: I take a break and then come back and pretend I'm starting a whole new session. Too many people are afraid they'll miss out on a big hand while they're gone; but you're far more likely to be missing losing hands; especially if you're already losing. Tip 2: if you think you should leave, leave. Period.
@shteebo
@shteebo Жыл бұрын
I agree. A break helps you regain your mental/emotional bearing, but more importantly, will help calm the sharks who will, quite correctly, target the "tilted loser" with their most focused aggressive play. Playing competently through a short streak of losing hands is an important skill every player should develop. However, an obvious string of horrible losses creates a losing dynamic. Walk away, regroup, and play another day.

Dude, Johnnie, thank you for this video! It was a bit different, but super valuable. I feel like I am also naturally pretty chill, but I definitely can get worked up….so I need to focus on relaxing during my most stressful situations if I want my best chance at high performance. Keep on enjoying the grind!!

Some guys can take a downswing easier, some not so much. But you got over the threat to go monkey tilt, and that naturally chill mindset you had helped. Your lessons here are valuable.

@@mattlogan1 The Curse of the Upswing: the more you win off good hands and bluffs and the more you realize you're profiting, the more likely you will overplay your hands and then get taken to the cleaners. Last night I won some hands off my friend in heads-up quarter-ante poker, then got my trips whacked by a straight. I then got down a few bucks before I finished up five bucks (he's my best friend, so I am not trying to G-man him).

Great stuff Johnnie and congratulations on not tilting. The sessions I'm most proud of are the ones where I get buried, but then stick to my plan, play my A game (however good that is) and claw my way back. Dumping coolers on half the table is fun, and certainly profitable, but you grow as a poker and a person when the coolers go against you.

Solid! I knew you could handle the downswing, but holy shit that one was massive. I might have lost my mind after that QT hand. But man, that is a HUGE win to come back to profit land after that. Your skill in that mindset aspect of the game is what initially got me sub'd your your channel years ago. Congrats on the win JV!

Great tips and video Johnnie, This reminds me of a recent session where I was about to leave and had 4 hands back to back of A.K / A.Q etc and losing each one to under pairs or a worse Ace. Unfortunately it was the end of my session but I still had the urge to stay and battle back. Thanks for the tips and good luck at the tables 👍

JVibes storytelling once of a man who lived life's swings believing " its neither good nor bad, it just 'is'. " . One of my favorite stories. Those tilt tips are great but are very challenging to apply if a persons DNA is hard wired towards being more emotional. The worst tilts Ive observed are when folks are getting crushed playing above the bankroll. Very Nice come back. 👍🏻😎
