More than 30 years before he recorded it for Rick Rubin, Johnny performed Rod McKuen's "Love's Been Good To Me" on the March 25, 1970 episode of his TV show. This is from the same show that he opened with "Hello, I'm John Carter Cash's Daddy!"

brilliant song and Cash one of the greatest interpreters of songs.

I remember watching John sing this song when it first aired on his television show. I was just a little girl and the melody and this performance has stayed with me my entire life. I always wished he would have recorded this song and during his last recording session in his life he sang this song. It was released on the "American V: A Hundred Highway" CD. It makes me cry everytime I hear him sing this song. He was a wonderful man. I miss him so much. Debbie Horton Branson On The Road

As one who is used to Frank Sinatra's version I certainly was excited to hear Cash's version. He certainly makes it his own and sings it in his inimitable style.

Great performance. It's interesting to compare this version with that included in the album American V: A Hundred Highways, recorded in 2002 and published in 2006 after his death. Different interpretations but both masterpieces..Johnny Cash forever!

I love the way he tries walking away at the end of the song. It is like a man who tries to avoid telling his story but is forced to piece by piece.

This is a very dignified performance and Cash looks so good here. But you know what, I think there is something so perfect about his version on the 2006 "A Hundred Highways" album, which has such a contented timbre to it, as he remembers June.

@alanyoung2 I have the greatest respect for Johnny Cash as I do Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristopherson. They sing about a slice of life they have actually lived and can also indentify with other people's stories.
