Johnny Cashbox - Sharon, Why Did You Have To Go? - From Roger, A Busker - 1980 - 2024

Archivist Edsel Kragg, recently discovered some demos of the songs for Roger, A Busker, written by Ralph G. Morse in 1980 and performed by the Causes Theatre Company. These early recordings are in a very poor condition and Edsel suggested that Johnny Cashbox cover one or two for the archive collection. On this video recording the guitar Johnny is playing is the same Washburn Monterey that Ralph G. Morse used for the actual production, in which the author played and sang the titular role.

Nice one, Johnny. I still fondly remember when Ralph and Ricky Sainbury first performed this song in rehearsal in Blackheath. Along with the Tin Soldier, It lifted the whole company. Really a happy and exciting time for us all, 1980.

It has the feel of a show song. I read somewhere that this was performed on stage with just the two acoustic guitarists and two ambience microphones located to give a little echo and projection. Superb song.
