His Floor is Clarkson but his Ceiling is D Book the way he can shoot and score in the post reminds me of book
@GoZags432 жыл бұрын
Clarkson is decent for his offense only. Johnny is going to bring WAY more defensively and as a rebounder than Clarkson. A wing/guard (his size and especially lack of length leave him more on the 2 guard side) with Clarkson’s offense and solid defense/rebounding, would be a hell of a player. I think that is closer to his ceiling/upper mid range outcome. He WILL NOT be Devin Booker. I promise you that. I think he’s smaller, but the shot COMPLETELY separates the two. Booker has and has had since HS a perfect shot. He’s consistent on his footwork, his dip, the one motion smoothness, and the consistent release. Just watch Johnny from 3 in this video. His footwork is all over the place from 3. Feet not landing parallel. Wide base/more narrow base. Johnny is WAY more a scorer than a great shooter of the basketball. I’d bet his NBA 3% stays in the 35-38% window for most of his career, which is good. It’s decidedly above average. Where Johnny is at his best is in his poor man’s Derozan like work in the midrange. He excels at tough shot making. I do think he’s going to be a good NBA player. Say 3rd leading scorer on a contending team type guy.

Booker is a shooting specialist while outside shooting is Johnny’s weakness… he’s only a 30% 3-pt shooter. Very different players.

@@bballer191 2021 Wisconsin Badgers and 2014 Kentucky WildCats two very different teams. Johnny Davis was the offense for his team. That Kentucky team was pretty balanced in their top 6 players. Kat, the Harrison Brothers, Booker, Trey Lyles, etc. Kentucky finished 1st in the AP poll, Wisconsin ranked 14th. Just because he struggled from 3 on a poorly spaced team doesn't mean much to me.

He's got really good instinct. He doesn't overcomplicate stuff, nothing looks insane, but he knows where to be and when to make the right move and then commits to the shot and makes them consistently. It's really nice to watch.

I remember clearly watching Marquette in the 2001 Great Alaska Shootout against Indiana and seeing Dwayne Wade for the first time and I was blown away knowing I was seeing a special player. I don’t see that with Davis, even as he carries Wisconsin on his back I see Alando Tucker with a better shot but less athleticism.
@wiggles15502 жыл бұрын
I see some similarities and agree. Dwayne Wade is arguably a top 3 shooting guard all-time to be fair though.
@bumpusjones.19782 жыл бұрын
@@wiggles1550My fault my point was clear as mud. I took for granted that people would remember Wade came out of nowhere in 2001 similar to Johnny Davis now, so my comparison didn’t have proper context. Wade had only 2 scholarship offers other than Marquette and was ranked in the mid 200’s in his recruiting class sat out as a freshman for academics and by time he played that GAS game he was almost a complete unknown. Davis was a 3 ⭐️ 150 something in his class and had 3 offers as junior but was named Wisconsin Mr Basketball and offers rolled in so it’s not an exact comparison because Davis was seen as a better recruit out of HS. The GAS game created Wade’s buzz really similar to Davis and the Houston game in the Maui classic this year. What’s being said about Davis right now is similar to what was said about Wade at this same point in his career but (at least in my eyes) Wade looked like a superstar with his physical gifts ball handling wizardry and Davis looks like a great basketball player but with a limited ceiling. Where they started and what Wade became are the parameters not the basis of my point. I owned a Dairy Queen on Marquette’s campus and I have several Wade (among other players) stories that I’ll share if your interested but won’t bother with in this reply.

@@bumpusjones.1978 You're acting like Davis was like a top 25 player in his class. A 3 star is pretty low to be in consideration for NPOY
@bumpusjones.19782 жыл бұрын
@@NicholasD saying Davis was a 3⭐️ and not a top 25 player works into my point. I assumed when I made my comment everyone remember what Wade was at the same point of his career as David is now but apparently not, and this made the meaning of comment blurry. As hard as it is to believe Davis was the higher rated recruit as he was an overall 160ish and Wade was a 220ish. Davis had 2 scholarship offers when he was a junior but after he was Mr Basketball for Wisconsin the offers rolled in. Wade on the other hand had a grand total of 3 offers after HS one of which was Marquette. Davis played all last year but his 7.0 ppg wasn’t accompanied by POY consideration and he first got national attention with his play in the Maui Classic and after the Houston game especially and then became a POY candidate after his 37 against Purdue. Wade sat out as a freshman and by the time of that GAS game I mentioned against Indiana Wade had played a total of 60min of CBB and was as close to unknown as anyone could be. They both came out of nowhere and parallels between the sophomore years of each are everywhere even to the point it was a holiday tournament when the BB world noticed them for the first time. The same things being said about Davis now are exactly what people said about Wade 20 years ago. My point was that I could see Wade was special his athleticism his ball handling his speed with the ball all jumping out of the TV at me but while looking at Davis now he seems like a great CBB player with a limited ceiling. My point was unclear I hope it’s clear now.

@@bumpusjones.1978 I knew what you were saying. And I agree with you. Davis is a solid player, but just doesn’t have that special feeling Wade had . Like you said, you just knew you were watching something special.
