Duke (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) and Donnie Brasco. All of which brought him critical acclaim, but little
commercial success. Due to an early decision in his career to only play roles that pleased him, he turned down
parts in blockbusters such as Titanic, The Matrix and Speed. Luckily for Depp, 2003's Pirates of the Caribbean
turned out to be a box office bonanza, generating 653 million dollars worth of treasure and earning him his first
Academy Award nomination for the character he based on Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards.

I got my partner to watch Black Mass, it wasn't until near the end I told him it was Johnny Depp, he wouldn't believe me. So we had to wait until the end credits. He was shocked. Johnny could easily have gone down the heartthrob route and been successful, but he is a brilliant actor in so many disguises. And a lovely guy with it. I loved Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, and laughed my head off. His portrayal of Hunter S Thompson on acid was so accurate.

I just heard a man say that Johnny is an actor's actor. He is such a great actor and great gentle kind and humble man. I have watched hours of him and Amber Heard on video and tapes that anyone who heard them would have no doubt who the abuser was and it was Amber. This is the first time I've seen this , it just appeared in my Utube feed today. As a Mr. Depp supporter it gave me a greater insight into what type of person he truly is. He seems to have that special quality of not taking himself too seriously. He also seems to have natural humility and charisma, which is very much lacking in the majority of famous people today. It's a testament to his name that the women whom he had meaningful relationships with have remained loyal ,bar AH and Ellen Barkin. One was after his wealth, and the other bitter over unreciprocated love. I'm so happy he found Vanessa Paradis and had the privilege of having two beautiful children together. Even though their not together now, there seems to be mutual respect between them both. After the aftermath of the AH trial ,he has bravely moved forward with his life, with dignity and respect.

Everyone’s like, he so fine. He’s so handsome, he’s great to his fans, he’s a great actor, he should of stayed with Vanessa. I’m like he has a hard time being in a stable relationship, he is broken from his childhood, he looks for drugs, alcohol and beautiful young women to numb the pain. He broke hearts left and right. Does anyone care about his soul, his core. I hope he finds true peace and happiness where he can find love for himself and God and give it to someone worthy. I’m so glad Vanessa seemed to move on and it so sad that Kate was so heartbroken but I’m glad she healed up and even spoke on his behalf at trial. He left those other women a lot easier than he left Amber which shows you his tolerance for pain and destruction. Hopefully he becomes less and less tolerant. We love Johnny because in a lot of ways we can relate to him.
