Johnny’s version came out in 1973 on his album “I’m Coming Home” which was written and produced by Thom Bell.

I am sorry you don't like the concert version. I am of the opposite opinion Johnny Mathis singing live is like no other experience. His voice grabs you and never lets go of you. Anyone can sing these days on a record with "autotune" and other mechanical "help" but Johnny Mathis is 100% authentically his own voice when he sings live. He is a rare, refined and exquisite singer. No one can touch him in my book

I can understand where you are coming from on this . I like it in its own right ,but Ive been listening a lot to the original arranged by the legendary Thom Bell. Its slower and with a typical Bell grand intro which provides such evocative mood and drama. This show came some years later by which time Disco ruled and I guess that explains the faster speed. At less than 3 minutes it doesn't even come close to doing justice to a song which was a rallying cry for oppressed communities and people to believe in their own destiny and abilities. Keep the Faith. R
