This is a wonderful performance of a big band-era classic. Johnny Mathis could sing any song and make it his own.

This is the very best version of this epic song both vocally and the arrangement.

As always makes the song, previously sung by many others, the best ever and makes it his own❤

Johnny Mathis, on your Heart of a Woman album there are 3 black and white pictures of you in a blue jean worn out outfit, and you have on the jacket with no shirt on, and I looked deeply in the picture and I saw how your gift of singing and holding such perfect notes so long, and how your chest looks when you hold those notes so long, well that is amazing to me. It is a phenomena. Like in the video Johnny 1 note.... I listen to your music often. So soothing to me right when I need it. Your voice has never disappointed me. Not ever.

This arrangement is so so wrong for this beautiful song! Hoagy Carmichael was a Bloomington, Indiana native, like myself. We embrace this song. Turning it into jazz lite is just wrong. This is one gig I hope my father was NOT on!

Watch the one on You Tube with John and The Boston Pops. Much better!

Dennis you can see him do the original arrangement if you search for the one he did for the Nat King Cole tribute. It's probably the best rendition of the song ever done.

One of my fave songs but the orchestra was sh*t, typical studio band only knows how to play one way and that's with an overkill of brass, bad phrasing, no light and shade and drowning him out. This is such a complicated melody, it needs kid gloves to showcase the singer's voice. Johnny tried valiantly and succeeded to do the song justice, despite a woeful orchestra. The sign of a truly great singer. Hoagy Carmichael would be turning over in his grave the way this orchestra presented his masterpiece!!

Jacqueline Reidpath sorry disagree with you Doc Severinsen used great musicians and arranged for a live performance which I think John enjoyed
@anateresaleguina41243 жыл бұрын
I agree with Miss J. Reidpath. The orchestra should sound "beneath" the singer's voice. Too loud, too much noisy...it is a pity, indeed!
