Johnny Morris in a Townsend Thoresen Car Ferry Holiday, across the Channel, C1971, F229

A 16mm film corporate promo for Townsend Thoresen I think, around 1971. This has narration legend Johnny Morris visit the continent on a Townsend Thoresen ship in about 1970. Needless to say, Johnny says much which was acceptable in his day which would be a problem now...but more importantly it is interesting to see the interior of the ship dating back 50 years!
Johnny Morris was more famous for his anthropomorphic voices in zoo settings and so on. But in any setting, Johnny Morris's voice and style is so instantly recognisable. RIP Johnny (1916-1999)

About 10 years ago my wife and I went on a cross channel ferry dover to Calais, with delusions of a bygone age, back in the early 1980s, when we went to the south of France every yeas for 5 weeks, the ferry was indeed part of the holiday, wagon drivers were, at that time catered for in another part of the ship, as, presumably they would wish to catch up on their sleep. Fast forward to 2013, and the experience was terrible, wagon drivers laid on the seating areas, shoes removed, snoring and if not, huddled in knots eating home made sandwiches out of biscuit tins, the buffet bar, all but gone, save for huge amounts of boxed sandwiches, which to my amazement were thrown into bin bags as the ship approached Calais, presumably to be thrown away. The lorry’s, I assume we’re the businesses which made the crossing viable, but, at the cost to the holiday passengers. Just another victim of the lovely world that we used to live in, gone forever.

Cherished memories taking the little caravan,we named it cassie,was 1970s,not sure what year,god i was so excited about 1974,9years old. What an adventure. Im going abroad or just about to find out exactly what that meant. I even remember thousand throurenson ferries. Jonny morris isnt he great,from animal magic.
