Enzo was a really top quality fighter. I've spoken to people who saw him in the amateurs and in the gym...they say the power he had was a blessing and a curse. He actually was a much better boxer/mover than he showed on fight night....but, he loved a scrap and knew he could end anyone in the world with one punch. Johnny was brilliant too in a different way. The ultimate over-achiever...and that's something to be proud of. He really did things the hard way. Then when he peaked, he would be a nightmare for anyone to fight.

Pre Haye Enzo was a good fighter but post Haye he was never the same. Haye absolutely ruined him.

Literally just watch his rematch with Bellew and then go back and see his fight with Enzo, I know he was a cruiserweight and was lighter but the shots he caught Enzo with were so fast I could barely see it. Haye obliterates both of them and Nelson beats Enzo on points

Matthew Gallagher you seem to be arguing against a point I haven’t made. I knew that Haye was past his best when he fought Bellew, but I didn’t realise just how far past it he was. Even a 75% version of the prime Haye would have beaten Bellew, and given that Haye was only 37 when he lost the second time, I was surprised he had fallen so far.

Nelson had some skills but was far too cautious. He was the only fighter I always wanted to see smashed up in the ring; he talked a lot but rarely delivered. Enzo would have won.

Nelson was a better boxer but Maccarinelli had a serious power in that left hand. We will never know but they could have had it out in the studio

Johnny!! But always liked both of them. It's a match of confidences....Johnny started with no confidence and Enzo lost confidence quickly later on in his career... Both had two if the best coached ever in the game. RIP calzaghe and ingle.

Big Mac was a brave man but his level was found somewhere around european level. No shame there he had a good career. I still remember Haye pummeling him on the ropes. He took some punishing shots that day. The gulf between Haye (an elite fighter) v Enzo (eiropean) was quite telling I think Nelson operated at a level above and would have beaten him.

Total contrast of styles... Nelson very good boxer with no knockout power who ran away for 12 rounds whereas maccarinelli had loads of knockout power but no boxing skills who would just keep on attacking and was a cruiserweight version of nigel Benn. I reckon Nelson would've had too much experience, would've danced away from macs bombs for 12 rounds and won a wide pts decision.

If Nelson would of fought Maccarinelli for his last fight, Nelson would of lost, and probably badly. He was gifted a decision against an Italian on Italian soil and he got out. He was smart. He simply would not of been able to get out the way of Big Macc. A that stage of their careers at least. But each on their best day, Nelson nicks it.
