I think Paycheck is the most underrated country singer of all. His voice was second only to George Jones. In my opinion, his peak years were in the mid to late '60s when he was on the Little Darlin' record label. In that time he released some of the best hardcore honky-tonk country music ever.

Have loved Country music all my life, but do not listen to today's ,what they call country,music"... As George Jone's said, "they need to get their own music". I miss those wonderful long note's with beautiful voices instead of the "sh@$ they call country today.. I keep my radio of the oldie's.....

About 6 years ago I was in a relationship with a wealthy woman who was neglected by her husband. We had a good thing going on til I had to break it off one night having internalized how wrong it was to bed another man's wife. She was literally begging me to stay a little longer while he was traveling for work, I couldn't. I was driving home that night when I turned on the radio and this song was the first thing to come on. Near the end I had to pull over and just think about how perfectly this song described my life at that moment.

I think the country/pop wannabe musicians of today need to take a tip from a guy like Paycheck and this video is a great example of that. Simple, stripped down, and no soulful run-on notes is what makes this song work. More importantly, not one sour note came out of Johnny's mouth when he sang this live. Great song from a great musician. RIP, Paycheck!
