I was the lead singer in a great band 1965 and 1966. We were on TV every Saturday. Everyone said i sounded like Johnny Rivers. He was one of my favorite singers. The Vietnam War put an end to our band. Myself and tge rythem guitar player joined the Marines.

I will also add that I think Johnny Rivers was one of the most underrated musician/singer/songwriter of the '60s. I loved his music--still do! My fav--"Poor Side of Town". :)

I wonder if he knows that he has such a devoted following still. I loved his music when I was in my teens, life happened. Now, I have natural gray highlights and still love him and his music.

It seems like with guys like him that all their great songs are the ones that were never played on the radio.

It's so nice to finally hear my favorite version of such a beautiful ballad on this site. Johnny is a very versatile performer able to adapt seemlessly from one genre to another. The production values on his music are incredible. I saw him earlier this year and what a great show. I met up with him after the show and he was totally amused by a t-shirt with a picture of him and I together 20 years ago which was the last time he performed here.

SOFTLY, AS I LEAVE YOU--beautiful song! Many people sang (recorded) this song including.Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, Elvis & The Lettermen. This is first time I've heard Johhny Rivers version. It is different, but doesn't make it any better or any worse than the others.

Pena que Elvis Presley(de quem Johnny foi grande amigo)nos seus shows apenas declamava a letra, utilizando Sherry Nilsen para cantar, daria uma excelente interpretação1
