Best entertainer ever! He always was so down to earth and humble. Loved it when he came back to Nebraska and visited Norfolk in the early 80s. I believe there is a video of the trip but haven't seen it in years.

Carson proved that he was better than any so-called talk-show host today. He didn’t let his own political views affect his monologue. He joked about both the Democrat Jimmy Carter and the Republican Ronald Reagan; and the jokes were neither mean nor condescending.

I think what happened is back then people got straight news from the News, and then got their humor from Johnny. Today most people don't watch and can't find unslanted news, so many liberals now actually rely on late night shows for their laughs and their news. Similarly most national news programs today are really entertainment disguised as news. Much of the country that used to secretly enjoy watching "Faces of Death" and demolition derbys are now getting both their "news" and entertainment from Fox while liberal types get news and laughs from Kimmel, Colbert, etc.. Blame cable and the web for the loss of both real news and real late night comedy that everyone could enjoy together.
