I’ve always found Johnny to be a fascinating character especially when he talks Robert Johnson, what a trip that must have been, the times he spent with Robert.. I’d imagine he’s no longer with us as of 2024 but it’s tester mount to him that he’s still remembered as a great blues man in his own right ⭐️🌞👍🏻❤️ Thank you Sir for this 🙏

It was great getting to hear Johnny Shines sing and play at the War Eagle supper club in Auburn, Alabama the last few years before he died… Johnny most likely would give a big shout out and thanks to his loyal student, Mr. Kent DuChaine, for getting a blues grant to study under the legendary Shines when he was still with us. It was truly life-changing and so wonderful to hear this truly talented and gifted blues legend in person. Thank you so much for doing this interview! It’s wonderful to hear him speak again. ❤

I was Greatly Blessed to have sat on and spend time on Robert Jr Lockwood's porch back Home in Cleveland and the first time Mr Johnny Shines walked up Mr Lockwood asked Me ... Kenny do You know Who Johnny Shines is?..... I really wasn't aware of it because it was so much about Robert Johnson but after that it was Wonderful to be able to sit on Mr Robert Jr Lockwoods' porch with him Mr Shines So many times What a Blessing 🔥👍🏼🙏🏻🙏🏼🙏🏿🎶🎸🎸🎸🎶🌠🥰

I once talked shortly with Johnny Shines, after a concert with Willie Dixon and Sunnyland Slim - don’t remember the name of the drummer. It was in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1969 and I was 15 years old. We followed the band on their way to their hotel, and I asked Johnny what he thought about Cream’s version of Robert Johnson’s Crossroads. It’s OK, he answered, and then said that he played with Johnson. It was too much for me to fathom, I spoke to someone who knew the mysterious legend of blues. But I had heard Robert Johnson a lot at the time, and it was a little outmoded for me who played electric blues in the late 1960s. I liked Shine’s playing better. He played a white electric Teisco surfguitar at the concert and he was really good.

God bless you, fishing musician! If this is who I think it is, I hope that old Lead Bessie is doing great and that you are too! Feel free to communicate my way if you would care to….Assuming you’re the person that I think you are being the computer keyboard…If that’s OK… And I really do appreciate everything you taught me about the blues music and those wonderful times will stay with me forever! I was just thinking about some of your original compositions this morning and how much I love them,…was even singing a few out loud… You are a living legend! Of course, that’s if you are who I think you are. But, no matter who you are, if you’re a fan of Johnny Shines’ and a fishing musician, you’re ok in anybody’s book👍🏻😎😃

Growing up reading these interviews are one thing but to listen to them is above anything. Did you do the Muddy Waters and Johnny Winter interview for Guitar Player or was that Tom Wheeler? That would be a good one to hear.
