I've been to Ella in the past and did the usual hikes to little Adam's Peak, saw the 9 Arches Bridge and all that. I've also been to a lot of Buddhist temples around the world, but Dowa Rajamaha Viharaya in Sri Lanka was my favorite. It was incredible! Wow.
It is believed that the temple bears a history dating back to about 2,000 years. Historically, the Dhowa temple was known as the Kumbaltissa Ariyagala Vehera, named after its chief priest who had provided sanctuary for King Walagamba, who turned the cave into a temple.
Work at the temple was not completed during the reign of King Walagamba, but was fully completed during the Kandyan Kingdom.
Dhowa Rock Temple is a protected heritage site in Sri Lanka, situated in the central mountains of the Uva province. Dhowa is a small, ancient village situated on the Badulla - Bandarawela main road near Ella. This temple is situated 210 km east of Colombo and 120 km south of Kandy.
he 12 m (39 ft) rock carved Buddha statue and the ornamental gateway are the main attractions of the temple. The statue is in a state of ruin due to rapid decaying.
Folk tales hold that the half finished Buddha statue was carved by King Walagamba himself while hiding in this caves during foreign invasions. The king is said to have left the area before he could finish carving the statue, thus leaving it half finished.

That temple was so serene and beautiful , Seen all those beautiful statues of GREAT BUDDHA was heartwarming .. I know Hawaii is gorgeous and breathtaking ' There is something very special about Sri Lanka. As I told you before and I must say Sri Lanka stands out from all other beautiful islands because of it ..Maybe you still DON'T see it ' but you will .. Remember GOD talks to you through other people' Maybe you should listen to what that gentleman told about buying a land and building something.. That will be a smart move ' What could help you to continue to live the life you want ..Things change but real estate never goes a waste.. Seriously that is one thing what will keep growing in value ..Specially in a island paradise like Sri Lanka with such beautiful nature and a colorful culture.. STAY SAFE AND SAFE TRAVELS.. STAY SAFE ..

Hi Johnny, Just wonder.., Talking about temples for me the most amazing is "Gal Vihara" (Rock Temple) in Polonnaruwa. There you have Buddha Stupas carved on a Granite rock using just "hammer and sickle". When you look at the Stupas you wonder how those Buddha stupas carved out so very smoothly and great precision on a rough grnite rock just using "Hammer and a sickle". Even using modern techonlogy it would be a huge, huge challenge to carve out Buddha stupas like the way those had been carved out at "Gal Vihara". You have to see those Biddha Stupas with naked eye to really believe the unbelivable craftmanship then.

Always caress Mother Earth with your bare feet. The rich contents in the soil helps to lead a healthy lifestyle. Apart from that, there are a number of sensors/nerve endings under our feet and when we walk barefoot on sand gravel and tiny stones/ pebbles, our entire body gets a stimulation through these sensors. It maybe a bit tough at the beginning but your soles gets adjusted in no time. That's how they're created. When we lead a barefoot lifestyle it not only makes our feet tough but also strengthen our muscles. The fatty padding which develops due to continuous barefoot walking gives us a better balance.Further barefooting is allowing your feet and soles to move freely. They love that freedom. Afterall, who like to be caged in their whole life ??? Footwear are instruments of torture. Opt for barefoot living for good health and happy feet!!!

You dont wish for anything when you light lamps, keep flowers etc to Buddha. You do a meditation thinking that like the lamp which will loose its light by a wind or by loosing the oil first or by burnning of the little cloth our life will end accodring to what might happen. Even the flowers just like it looses the scent and the freshness our life will loose our youth.
@JohnnyFD
@JohnnyFD 4 жыл бұрын
Wow thanks for the insights! That's really interesting.
@sunilmudalige3811
@sunilmudalige3811 4 жыл бұрын
@@JohnnyFD yes, Johnny. It is to reflect about life. Like the lamp our life can be blown away at the start or half way or like the way the cloth and the oil and the light it will go on until everything finishes. If you light one lamp or thousand the thought that cones to your mind is the important thing. We only light one lamp with that meditation. Some people light many but one lamp is enogh. Even just few flowers are enough for the meditation. You just have to remember that everything in this world is not permanent. We are living an impermanent life.
