For all the despair and heartache, the elderly lady who is having her house rebuilt was full of smiles and good cheer and was thankful. How wonderful it was to see. Will you visit again when it's done and show us what the finished product is like and see how she is? I do hope so. What stellar work Repair Together are doing. This tragedy has pulled us all together in the best way and if there was anything good to come out of this War, it is that, the love we have for our fellow man.

So sad to see these beautiful public buildings and the communities around them that have been destroyed. Johnny it took hundreds and hundreds of years for Sigiriya to fall into obscurity and decay, and this took less than a year, in some cases only a matter of weeks, to remove such a lot of what is normal for modern life. Ukrainians are amazingly resilient. Something they also have in common with Sri Lanka who had the Boxing Day Tsunami to deal with, but still kept a great sense of humanity and solidarity.

What Russia has done to Ukraine is both criminal and immoral. I am on a very limited income and and disabled I know what it is like to be hungry, alone, and a little cold but I can't imagine what it is like for these people. I couldn't eat solid food for 14 years and what it did to add to my depression was immeasurable, therefor I make donations to World Central Kitchens as my birthday gift to myself.( 97% of what is donated goes for the food they distribute. It took only a matter of days for them to set up for feeding desperate Ukrainians...) I hope others that are in positions to help do so in the rebuilding of Ukraine.

good, but everyone should understand that mostly people who have lost their homes don't know what to do in the future basically they do not know how they will be returned, whether the russian federation will pay money for compensation or not, when it will be so great that there are volunteers and enterprising, creative people like these guys better than nothing, but the volumes of what needs to be restored where possible and even larger where it is not yet possible are simply huge

Hi Johnny. This is Glen from Oregon. I’ve watched your videos for a while. I noticed today that I hadn’t subscribed. Thought I did a while ago. So I officially just did. I want to donate to repair together. I’m on Social Security so I don’t have spare money. But I’m willing to cut back on food to raise some money. I could loose a few pounds. My only worry is if my money is really going to go to repairs? Not just $1.00 out of $25 donated. Keep up the good work

It's very good to bring these stories to KZbin.. for people to know the things that are happening at local level and that so many different things are being donated from different companies and countries and the musicians etc raising funds. These are the human stories of people getting together to help each other. This is as important as the battle waged by the military.. because all Ukrainians have shown that they will not be defeated by him.

@hirdbarding3399 Жыл бұрын
@@lennaertvanhee I don't think it is common for ppl in rural areas here in Ukraine to use loans, maybe I am wrong. From my experience, in my grandmother's village, people who were richer, just saved money for year or two, sold some cattle or pork/fat and then bought what they wanted, without loans. Other people were just using bikes

Don't pet the cats? You've been in contact with a Parvo Dog and those cats from the shelter might be carriers. Sure the black cat likes to get a pet but do you really think it is wise to risk the life of that beautiful cat by giving it Parvo that might be on your hands now that you are fostering and visiting animal shelters which are very much where Parvo and Conjunctivitis flourishes? As to the rebuilds...They don't appear to be using rebar steel in the walls to anchor the house to the ground and the roof to the anchors. I saw some wood that looked like truss work. The roof shows no bomb resistance at all. If you make a bomb proof roof it is insulating just as bomb proof walls are insulating. If done right you won't hear a single sound from outside when indoors and the rooms will neither become cold in winter or hot during the summer. I'm curious how they did the slab? Those bricks on the house build looks like they might be fire bricks which are more durable than regular bricks but they are thin although long and hollow which means they might be more prone to cracking or crumbling. If they add rebar fed through those gaps in the blocks and then pour concrete and fill those hollow bricks then you'd have a reinforced concrete wall but the brick being used is very thin so it's probably not going to be very strong even if you fill them with concrete and steel. A bomb hitting that wall would crumble and with the concrete and steel would like twist but maybe not grumble into a pile. But to rebuild would be harder with such thin walls if they put steel in those bricks because they'd need a torch to cut out the mangled steel rather than just picking up hollow broken bricks and tossing out the shattered bricks and reusing the sold bricks. Considering Ukraine has been at war for over 1,000 years and razed several times the people there appear to build their buildings so that if knocked down they can stack them back up again quickly and have a livable house in short time. The bombed out buildings appear to be maybe 9x9 brick walls in some areas made from solid red clay bricks, the type one can use in a fireplace. Sand planting the brick will take all the stains off the exterior. They can. take out the broken bricks and put new ones in. If I were them I'd do something about the roofs. Make them reinforced concrete and steel roofs rather than what they are doing that can withstand a bomb strike. I didn't see any reinforced concrete steel walls that could hold within the rebar roof tie down steel that anchors the roof all the way down to the slab. I think someone should start a steel rebar manufacturing company for construction because it doesn't seem to be a material commonly used there looking at a few samples of what is being rebuilt, partially destroyed that's newer material and the old buildings. Also something that might be needed is a concrete company that delivers premixed pourable concrete that has a tube with a pump that can be taken to the top of the walls and poured into the walls to make them solid concrete walls. But without the steel in the walls they will crack. In a war zone you want thicker walls and not so thin that's reinforced steel and concrete on the roof and walls. The apparent fireproof bricks they are using appear to be nice. You should build a bomb shelter in the yard if you don't make the construction of the house a bomb shelter. They aren't expensive to make and you can include plumbing, toilet, kitchen, bedrooms in the bunker plus a shower and even utility sink for washing clothes and solar for electricity to power a washing machine, air conditioner or heater, refrigerator, electric stove and so forth. I'm pondering the brickwork in the buildings that didn't collapse other than the roofs. They just chipped. They must be made of fire bricks.
