It's so nice to have this two blocks from my apartment in Kyiv. I love that the fruits and vegetables are sold farmer direct, and the prices are cheaper than at the supermarket, instead of the other way around. This market is every Sunday on John McCain street, yes named after, the former US Senator John McCain.

It is so great to see that life still goes on in Ukraine, I definitely agree with McCain about Ukraine. That farmer's market puts the ones I used to go to in Sacramento to shame. That outdoor market in Kyiv is like its own big grocery store outside.

Used to visit Sacramento and San Jose area and remember how my friends there told lets go to farmers market u ll love it, i came there and it was pretty good but i invited them to Kyiv, the visited and they loved it here. Its one of the reason I came back to Ukraine after 7 months of war, i just cannot live in another countries. Ukraine is a food country and prices are wayyy better than in EU. Even i earn pretty american salary here, still i just dont think food should be expensive cause of corporations and their lobbying in parliaments

Wow! In the US, I work at one of the largest farmers market in the Delaware Valley area (selling novelty gift). But they dont have nearly as much fresh produce as this Ukrainian farmer's market has. And most of the fruits that are available are imported. I love eating fresh and this farmer's market just looks incredible

WOW!!! What a beautiful haul of pure perfection!! I, though it is more expensive than the conventional grocery stores, always hit the Farmers' Markets -- it's my way of honoring those that work and revere the land, and the produce is always far better quality --- It's "alive" with flavor, respect and love! When I lived in Northern Germany, I lived on a street where the open market was held every Saturday. I could tell the seasons by the produce offered for sale, and I did have my favorite vendors. It was a great way to hone my German language skills, and become part of the community. Glad you enjoy such beauty as well! Be well. 💕💕

When I was living in Kyiv one of my girlfriends worked at a sidewalk stand close to where I live in Obolon. I many times went there and spent the day walking around and eating the fruits. The line at her street market always had a line and was always the longest because of the quality and price. I miss living in Ukraine. What a beautiful country and people. Yes, carrying heavy purchases home on foot is also one of the reasons why we don’t have a problem with obesity in Ukraine. And I will say that after dragging heavy purchases home, you feel tired, but there is something primal in this; you feel like a breadwinner and there is some kind of internal satisfaction that is not there if you do it by car) There's something in our DNA that makes you feel satisfied after you've put in the effort to get food delivered to your home.

in canada, farmers markets are expensive. they are usually geared towards artisanal, small batch, organic shoppers - a.k.a. rich people. occasionally, one may find deals but it is rare. one of the main reasons this is the case is because the cost to rent a booth at these farmer's markets in canada are high in itself and so the cost is passed on to the consumer.

I think it's a more cultural thing. In the West poorer people eat the most processed food and wealthier people eat the most fresh food. In less developed countries it's actually the opposite. They still have the traditional culture of cooking fresh food. A farmers market aimed at poorer people in the West probably wouldn't sell much because poorer people here want processed food and can't or won't cook.

Ukraine Worlds Best Farmers Market? In order seasonal fruits and vegetables it take several requirments, it all vegetation will require 8-10hours of direct Sunlight, temeratures must not go lower the 70 Fahrenheit (21.1 Celcius) and abundance of fresh water, at times contant slow watering 24/7, irrigation system. Fertilizers and good soil that pest-free, contimination-free, this requires a massive labor force. I'm base my points off El Centro California

@@SoCal74 They have plenty of water, just like they have plenty of good looking women. There is no problem with water in Eastern Europe on the contrary of what I heard in USA (I don't know California). Also the temperature due to climate change is getting warmer, winters are not so harsh like it was decades ago. It means that you can grow other type of vegetables who you couldn't do before. The Ukraine black soil is unique in world.

Here we have rain at least once a week specially when its so hot outside, once a week is a thunderstorm, so it s solving irrigation trouble. This is called ярмарка from German *Jahrmarkt* , a kind of market where people sell their homegrown veggies and fruits, also honey, salo and other products. There are lots of them in Kyiv. Their only difference from regular markets is that every weekend people come from remote villages to sell their goods which they can't sell at home, because everyone in the village has the same stuff grown. Regular markets or resellers buy veggies in bulk at a lower price (say $2-$2.5 for 1kg of blueberries) right from the villages and set their value as high as they want (like the one you saw there with a price tag saying 200 UAH which is $5 for 1 kg). Thus, people who don't have a possibility to get to Kyiv carrying all that stuff have nothing to do, but accept an offer. Markets have their employees who sell these products every day, not only on weekends. There also might be some resellers (100 gr for 20 UAH? It was a ripoff in broad daylight😅), but most of them bring everything from their own veg patches so that the prices are affordable. The very first guy sells blueberries for $3.2 which is a good deal. In my hood they're $4 for 1kg. The prices vary a lot sometimes and it's better to stroll back and forth few more times to find the best deal.

So in northern Colorado, during the busy season, if you check in at "help desk" or w whoever is "in charge", you get double bucks for that shopping trip ie. $100 you have to spend now gives you $200 to spend at market. The prices vary, you get your hoighty toighty stands and regular fair stands, maybe a few things are cheaper or higher priced but mostly about the same. That double bucks deal makes it worthwhile

Question. Is there a local market for these home batteries that can be charged with solar cells? They are getting very affordable now and I would think this could be a solution if you have regular power outages. I see that in Texas also many households try to get less dependent on the grid for similar reasons. Thanks.
