The all-new DS 4 is the 4th model of the young French luxury brand. It is a real competitor for the German Audi A3, BMW 1 Series and the Mercedes-Benz A Class and their crossover siblings.

In this video I'm driving the 2021 DS4 around the Chantilly region Near Paris, on some really French roads with some really French music. I stop over at a chateau to walk around the DS 4.
My test car is a 'La Première' version, which has a “1” badge at the front. Color is Lacquered Gray with a gloss black roof.
The 180 horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine is paired with a 110 horsepower electric motor integrated into the 8-speed automatic gearbox, providing 225 cumulative horsepower.
The DS MATRIX LED VISION projector headlights include Matrix Beam and Dynamic Bending Light (lighting that adapts when turning into corners).
In the back there's the laser-cut rear lights, looking very futuristic.
When we take a look at the profile, it sits on huge 20" rims and it has fancy retracting door handles.
The DS 4 is partly coupe, hatchback and crossover, it is taller and longer than the latest models on the same platform, such as the Peugeot 308 and the Opel Astra. It is also more expensive and more luxurious.

Hi Marek, I'm not 100% sure. I always activated steer / lane assist together with the Adaptive Cruise Control, but if I recall correctly, it can also be switched on or off separately in the assist menu. Thanks for watching & commenting! ✌️

In terms of design the new Citroen C4 & C5X is way more original and fresh, sci-fi looking. Except for some features, DS4 has a more common design like Lexus or Audi. Probably this is what they wanted.

@stevey2281 Exactly, Citroën dares to be more of the enfant terrible (with some nice but also some ugly cars tbh :), where DS focusses on luxury lifestyle and class.

I drove the DS3 crossback for a good while (over 20.000km). It's a comfortable car to drive, but the main problem for me was the appalling bad room in the back seats and the limited boot space. (Driving an Astra atm, it's better on both accounts). I was hoping the DS4 would be the DS3 crossback done right. If the backseats are still cramped, but only a little less so, that's still not a winner in my book. When we look at the PSA range, the Mokka has the same problem. Only the 2008 has decent room in the back seats in the PSA smaller SUV range. How does the DS4 compare to the 2008 in terms of that, do you think?

What i think? an unnecessary car to go from point A to B with useless gadgets. I prefer my nissan bluebird turbo from 1987. This DS4 will never see 34 years on its chasis....

@@johnnypovdrives no they don’t and that’s very unfortunate, we have Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Japanese cars, USA ones obviously and Korean but no French cars and that’s too bad, I’m 💯 sure they would do amazing here.

@@johnnypovdrives unfortunately their CEO said in an interview that the group is already selling cars in the US through Chrysler I believe? And that it wouldn’t make sense to bring DS or Peugeot… I would also love to get one there

Absolutely stunning! - drives great, seats are very comfortable - they're like armchairs and very supportive. My only negatives are that the back doors only open a little bit, cheapest leather material used for interior dashboards to get easy scratch and also the rear seat space is a bit tight, not ideal for kids or and car seats. It doesn't hold its resale value very well, but apart from that it's a great car.

Such a nice fresh design! All those new details and those Chinese brands can't even get a dam thing without coping and blending detail from other brands expecting we don't realize where they copy from...... Great review! closer to the experience of getting in the vehicle

Stimmt. Es ist zwar nicht das geräumigste Auto, aber nicht jeder braucht den Platz für 4 oder 5 Personen.

Believe it or not, I saw one of these in a Tesco car park here in the UK. I actually really like the stying Citroen has put into these. But, personally, it wouldn’t be all to practical for our needs, we’ve got horses and dogs, so we need an suv. My mum currently has a Suzuki S Cross. Greetings from Brighton and Hove in the UK.

Some very nice trim and detailing, but Citroen need to up their game with the instrument clusters - like on C5X this has a poor digital gauge where a really classy set of digital read puts would help it feel more premium.

I am 5’10” tall but with the driver’s seat set for me, I literally couldn’t fit my legs into the rear footwell! It is so tiny in the back seat with no useable legroom!

It looks gorgeous and I know it's not a hot hatch, but 0-100 in 8 seconds is not good for top end powertrain.

There will be a faster - non hybrid - version available. But indeed this 225 hp version is not the fastest…

@@johnnypovdrives 308 II (GT) was available with thp 205 & manual (2015), facelift was thp 225 and automatic gearbox (2018). New model is only available as hybrid 180/225. The only "classic" engines are 1.2 thp 130 and 1.5 hdi 130 which is kinda sad.

Nice car, but I have one question. What is the consumption in normal a mode? Is that 1,4 l/100 km real value?

Depends really on how you drive it. I've driven it when the consumption was as lot higher, but at the same time I was charging the battery from the petrol engine. In Hybrid mode and without silly driving, you could average the 1,5 to 2l/100 km I guess. Thanks for watching!

Oh God. I couldn’t sit in the back of that car. My knees would be crushed to their wits end. I’m 5:9, and I’ve got really long legs, so that would be incredibly uncomfortable for me. The only problem is that it's often a bit underpowered, but long live the pro-electric governments and their bullshit regulations. Otherwise, the quality of finish and comfort on board is enough to worry the premium brands...

2ltr is needed or two motors with 90 kw pac topping 300 hp , it will then go as it looks, lovely finish all looks no go 😡

Ds es sólo premium a la hora de facturar. Como cliente de la marca no recomiendo a nadie que se compre un Ds, yo tengo un ds4 del 2017 y me dio error avería motor+urea, un defecto de fábrica del cual hemos tenido que asumir nosotros el coste total de reparación, 1400 euros obligados en parte porque necesitamos el coche para ir a trabajar. Si buscáis en redes, hay una plataforma de cientos y miles de clientes del grupo Psa en España afectados por esta avería.

Traveling with 2 kids might be a challenge in any compact SUV or crossover, but for everyday use it’s quite alright. You mean it is too small?

@@johnnypovdrives yes, many new cars, especially electric vehicles, come out as trendy compact suv's or some kind of crossover...but they don't have enough luggage space, especially for families with smaller children who need some kind of stroller. Wouldn't want to use a roof box, even for weekend trips or visiting grand parents etc...really sad, that the good old practical estate is dying out.

There is definitely some resemblance, the sharp lines in the silhouette and parts of the front. Rear looks better on the DS imo and I guess the DS looks a bit more dynamic overall.

Ça, dépend, tant que les enfants ne dépassent pas 11 ou 12 ans, la place est bien suffisante. La réalité est que les jeunes parents n'ont de toute manière généralement pas les moyens d'acheter une voiture à plus de 10 000 euros...

DS devrait y regarder à 2 fois avant de confier ses voitures à des conducteurs en excès de vitesse, et qui pondent des vidéos minables. Totalement incompétent!

Dommage que vous n'aimiez pas la vidéo. On ne fait ça que sur des routes vides avec une vue dégagée. Nous testons les voitures de la manière dont elles seront conduites dans la réalité. J'ai été dépassé plusieurs fois par des conducteurs français lors de ce test... ✌️
