I bet that our protected infra was going to feature prominently and I was not disappointed. :) To those telling Johnny to be careful, trust me - he is. It looks dangerous because of our roads, laws and enforcement - all designed to facilitate driving convenience and a lack of accountability.

I cringed watching the way you ride, you hv bad riding skills.. Bikes are just not meant for city streets, so u need to ride w better anticipation.. Alot of what you complain about, I could easily anticipate them. The diff is that I am used to really bad traffic, you are not. I expect cars to cut me off, not used signals n to be in their blind spots, you just dont anticipate any of those. Only cab drivers, ambulance n bike messengers hv those skills in the West. Toronto traffic to me is very well organised, w good predictable drivers. So many ppl who used to that n are just complacent. If you dont chg your attitude, u will get into an accident one of this day.

@@RedHanded1969 Its your opinion on his riding and questioning if he is a good cyclist or not but regardless cyclists shouldn't have to tolerate bad drivers to begin with. Cyclists shouldn't feel scared to ride their bikes alongside cars when people cycle for many reasons Whether its a hobby, to lose weight, or financial reasons. Drivers should take into consideration that cyclists are very vulnerable and could get seriously injured in a crash. The way I see it, its cars that aren't meant for city streets for pollution, grid locks, and especially for high cost of maintenance. There are even plans to make parts of downtown car free and the addition of more bike lanes so i do think your statement is becoming false.

@@RedHanded1969 Totally agree that the streets have to be redesigned for proper bike lanes to function but over here (Toronto) its a start and like I said, there are projects currently in talks to ban cars in certain parts of Downtown. "His riding style is dangerous bcos he assumed he has the right of way, that is incontradiction to the other drivers mentality" Dont know why youre saying his riding style is dangerous because...... When you ride a bike on city streets, one needs eyes in the back of their heads. At times it's like a war zone. One thing I have learned is to just let things go. It's not worth getting bent out of shape. Down here, if you scream/swear/flip off an a-hole driver you stand a good chance of a bad confrontation where you might end up being shot. There are many times when I'm out riding, or even driving, I wish for a portable transporting device like in Star Trek. By the time I'm done with all those dangerous air heads there would be a huge traffic jam in Antarctica. It seams that even bike lanes and multi use paths can be more dangerous at times than street riding. Just be safe out there Johnny. Have you ever thought about slowing down a bit? Just saying. Mahalo!
@martinkent333
@martinkent333 3 жыл бұрын
You seem to misunderstand riding downtown. Drivers who come off the highway cannot estimate cyclists' speeds correctly. Thee drivers suffer from the inner ear's confusion, called Velocitization. So they cut you off. Also, wearing dark clothes is a stupid idea downtown. Sunglasses and earbuds too. I have been cut off by so many pickup truck drivers in Downtown Vancouver, that I give them a wide berth, dude. Do not under estimate the hallucinating drivers who have come off of the highways. You can't tell the freaks from the normal drivers, so never underestimate the drivers' poor ability to gauge relative speeds. OK?
@kelalamusic9258
@kelalamusic9258 3 жыл бұрын
@@martinkent333 gauging speed coming off a highway, is true enough. I've caught myself driving above the speed limit going from highway speeds down to city street speeds, or the burbs in my case. As far as my cycling is concerned, I'm miles from a highway, so by the time any driver who has exited a highway, should have adjusted his speed long before reaching where I am, and I'm also miles from a city. Also, as far as riding a bike, or even a scooter in a downtown city area, as Johnny does now, I will not use either. I can't tell you how many times I've flinched watching Johnny weave his way through traffic in downtown Toronto riding his bike or scooter. For me, it isn't worth risking my life.

@@kelalamusic9258 Drivers that come off the freeways suffer Velocitization until they sleep and the Vestibular Structure readjusts. Cyclists are fodder for Velocitized drivers. The driver can go 50 kph, but mentally they are travelling 20 kph. A dangerous hallucination. Johnny gets off on being a domestic terrorist, frightening pedestrians and other cyclists. He probably wears dark clothes and sunglasses to make his act more slimy.

@@JohnnyStrides yes it starts at 25 seconds. The right lane was closed therefore it cannot be a bike path. By road rules you are behind that car and the same way a motorcycle cannot glide through like that neither can you. If a right lane is closed and someone cuts right at the opening, he can't anticipate a biker squeezing by and you have to heed to him as you're behind. I'm not one to talk because I'm a maniacal biker but it almost cost me big time once when I did the same thing at 50km/h riding downhill on Lawrence
@JohnnyStrides
@JohnnyStrides 3 жыл бұрын
At 25 seconds in he is obligated to check his blind spot and signal before changing lanes and did neither. You can't justify it by saying he can't anticipate a cyclist. If you do that on a driving test you instantly fail. Cyclists (and motorbikes) frequently ride in partially closed lanes which makes him all the more obligated to check his blindspot. That's terrible driving no matter how you slice it.

@@JohnnyStrides nah lol the lane was closed. You're behind him. You can't swoop in like that. Even if he didn't signal hes still in front of you. If you hit someone from behind you're at fault, whether by car or bike 🚲

@JohnnyStrides 3 жыл бұрын
@@J1912-b2f Nope...at the time of his improper lane change I was not behind him. Again, the driver had to signal (didnt't) and has to check his blindspot (again... they didn't). If a vehicle strikes an object while changing lanes it is 100% at-fault (ask any insurance adjuster... I know several). He was reckless and you're justifying it.. smh

I'll need to preface this comment by saying you were not in the wrong for any of the incidents, but approaching so many of those situations as if the person driving will yield or the oncoming bike would stay on the correct side of the trail are not assumptions I would make as a Toronto cyclist. I value my wellbeing more than the faith I put into others to follow the rules of the road.

Velocitized drivers terrorize bikers regularly. This trauma is of no interest. The trouble with bike safety is the rider, who is frequently riding a stolen bike and blows stop signs, wears ear buds and rides on the sidewalk. OK? Civic duty is unknown in Ontario's capital city. Teens should supersoak the crotches of adults breaking traffic laws and run. Snowballs in the winter. The endless parade of city slicker bicyclists - need wet crotches and adult diapers to get the hard cold facts. OK?

This video made me appreciate how pretty tame it is to bike in this city .. I mean vision 0 is a failure and thank God you have not suffered at the hands of some terrible drivers. Ride safe

Terror to bikes is caused by drivers from off the highway. They suffer from Velocitization - a slow motion deceleration effect. The cyclist is seen in slow motion and cut off. Watch for pick up trucks, downtown. OK?

bicyclists should also be made to take a "riders" exam and get a license, and have insurance.
@JohnnyStrides
@JohnnyStrides 3 жыл бұрын
That's going a little far. I don't disagree with the testing and holding them more accountable for breaking the rules but insurance? They're not driving 2000 pound killing machines around like motorists...

At 3:45, if you hadn't stopped to rightly call that guy out, that white truck would've likely hit him. You might have saved his life there.

Geesh! You probably saved a couple of lives at 13:33, both the cyclist, the older pedestrian and perhaps a vehicle collision as well. I’m so glad you spoke up and that he heard you. This is certainly an exciting video but I hope there are fewer “incidents” going forward so that we’ll have to wait a long time for another one. (Your safety is the most important factor).

lol it's an absurd situation to have a non-pedal assisted ebike blow by you in a bike lane. Keep fishing for reasons to make stupid comments though...
