OH MY GOD!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU COVERED THIS CHARACTER!! I first learned of him from a poster a guy notorious for telling tall tales had in my childhood, who told me his name was Fuse, I didn't have internet back then, but i didn't super believe the guy and still hadn't seen this character appear in the comics, but oh my god did I love his design, I just made up my own headcanon for him and played as him in our childhood RP battles... (We've all had those right? "I'm red ranger/whoever" "nuh-uh that didn't hit me I used forcefield!" etc xD)

In terms of his legacy, Shortfuse is set to appear in a Sonic crossover fan film called Sonic Villains. That's looking pretty good.

Shortfuse and techno are the two characters from Sonic the comic I'd really want to make appearances in game. Up there with Cosmo from Sonic X and the return of Sally Acorn. Tangle and whisper are okay but the four characters listed above are actually cool.

I've got so much love for Shortfuse. His design is absolutely amazing. A really talented music artist on youtube somewhere (who used to create lots of sonic/trance songs) uses his design as his profile pic too- though haven't seen anything from the chap for years...

One of my fave characters finally gets the spotlight! Seriously him, Ebony and Tekno were three characters I feel Deserved to have lived on through some sort of media! They were so different and unique and seemed to have extra depth to their character I felt lacking from the original cast.

Interesting, I love the Fleetway Comics and it’s great to hear more from you. He reminds me a little of Protoman from the Mega Man series, who was also a tragic loner robot (his JP name was literally Blues) who was the prototype for the humanoid robots we see in the series. He runs away from Thomas Light (Rock/Mega Man’s future creator) and gets captured by Albert Wily (the villain that builds and reprograms robots for his own purposes) and made into an evil robot called Break Man. They manage to revive him, but, since he is a prototype, a defect in his system causes him pain and is slowly killing him. Maybe it was the MvC gameplay in the background that helped me make the connection, or maybe just that I like the series. Anyway, great video

He was a great character. I always thought he had a similar personality to Depthcharge from Beast Wars: Transformers. A tough moody loner, hated taking orders, not a team player and his top priority was fighting an arch-enermy, even above the safety of his comrades.

I always loved seeing shortfuse in the sonic the comic’s! Since the fleetway comics have become something of an obscure cult classic for most sonic fans, it’s nice to know I was a part of all that when they were coming out. Still got about 14-15 issues lying around somewhere!

Although my comment isn't about the Shortfuse character, I'd like to share a bit of trivia about the Fleetway Comics. Here in Portugal, a book publisher named Porto Editora actually released at least one comic book with the Sonic Fleetway comics translated to Portuguese. I don't have a copy, but I wanted to get my hands on one just to see if there's any difference (either a detail unique to the Portuguese translation or the omission of another detail from the UK original). Johnny Vector, I don't know if you read every comment, but I just wanted to share this bit of information. Interestingly, I don't think there's anything in Portugal related to the Archie Comics, unless the Sonic SatAM series counts, but only one episode from the subtitled version survived and the European Portuguese dub of that series is lost.

It was Issue #134 where Shortfuse made a cameo in the Archie Sonic Comics. Like you said, he appeared as a cameo when Sonic explained about that the Bem aliens deroboticized the Mobians. Fleetway Sonic made a cameo as his alter ego, Bob Beaky. Fleetway Amy can been seen talking to Tekno and Ebony. I presume it's the Fleetway version because her clothes match the ones Amy wore in Fleetway's adaption of Sonic Adventure. Also, you can find Pyjamas and Metamorphia in a crowd.

Great video as always. I especially enjoy how British this channel is. Being a Brit myself its good to see some quality YT sonic content that isn't yanky. Also, I just want to say I saw the 2nd Sonic movie a few nights ago. No spoilers obviously but I will say; it wasn't really my kind of thing but most of the choices I understood. Most of the complaints I had could easily be trivialised with "its a kids movie ya dolt". Except one. The music sucks ass and I do not understand why. I don't even mean the licenced ST (which was also bad). I mean the soundtrack made for the movie. All of it was bland, boring and forgettable orchestral music. Sonic 1 and 2 have some of the best music ever made. Sonic 3's music however... I can't even begin to describe how much I love it. If Sonic 3&K's ost was a person, I'd marry them. So, to throw all of this iconic music in the trash and only to be heard ONCE as a fucking reference on a ring tone was a fucking insult. Yes I know sonic 3 Michael Jackson blah blah blah. But Sonic 1 and 2?! You are telling me you couldnt at least put some of the melodies in the music?!? Fuck you. Sorry, rant over. This is the only place I get to talk Sonic online.
