OK, Im going to be a complete fucking nerd and dispute the year and venue/source of this recording. After listening I think this is actually from 85 (I believe March) and from Gorilla Gardens/Rock Theatre-Omni Room. I think Chris Quinn (Skank Puppies) recorded this. I got this in the mid-80s from Justin Vaccaro. My humble (the) Melvins tribute band: sunn O))) covered a song from this set: Rabbits Revenge: 16:52 in. And inserted a sample from this very recording on the album we did that on øø Void. We of course are not worthy. If Buzz or Dale is reading this...we love you and can we bootleg this on vinyl? hahahahhahahahahah

+Greg Anderson Are you able to give us a set list for this?
@JohnPurkey19 жыл бұрын
+Greg Anderson , Hey Greg it's John Purkey I played in Subvert and Noxious fumes weve played a bunch of shows in the past. ANYWAY Kurt Flansburg had this tape and it was recorded at KAOS he was there and did some AC/DC songs with the melvins after this set. Now this very well may have been recorded also by the radio station gear and copies were given out.

+JJ Perks , Hey man...of course I remember ya! weird about this recording..Definitely sounds like it was recorded at a venue. On my copy I seem to recall some talking at the end of the show where some dude says something about "heading out via the Ave. way" which I always thought was a reference to the u-district (which is why I thought it was from Seattle etc..) . hahahaha fuck ...now I ll have to dig for my tape. If you havent seen it, this yet its a fucking sick archive of shows and flyers: www.themelvins.net/wiki/index.php?title=Melvins_Tour_Dates_1986

+JJ Perks , also found this: from brendanhunt.com Stiff Woodies was another short lived band that included Melvins frontman Buzz Osbourne (vocalist/guitarist); Krist Novoselic (bassist); and Kurt Flansburg (radio d.j./guitarist). Kurt Cobain's involvement with this project is unclear. They may have also featured Dale Crover (drummer); Mike Dillard (drummer), Matt Lukin (bassist); and Robert McFadden. These demos, from a 1986 KAOS radio session, are their only recorded materials. Stiff Woodies played one concert at the Pourhouse in Aberdeen, WA at some point in 1986. No bootleg exists of this concert. 1 - Sin City (AC/DC cover: Kurt Flansburg on vocals) 2 - Breakdance Boogie (Krist Novoselic on vocals) 3 - Loose (Buzz Osbourne on vocals) 4 - C'mon and Love Me (Kiss cover: Buzz on vocals)

+Greg Anderson I will talk to Kurt and get this streightned out. The tape says KAOS and Kurt said it was recorded at KAOS but the recording with him singing in the stiff woodies is also on the tape. Maybe I should upload that too!

+Greg Anderson yeah, I had always assumed rabbit's revenge was an early version of hung bunny or something (bunny is hung -> rabbit takes revenge)

The riff in the first few seconds before Buzz starts talking is from the end of Metallica's "Seek & Destroy."

Doesn't sound like a broadcast tape. Also, the room sounds too big to be the KAOS studio. Was it recorded on a boombox in the performance room? Was it in one of the other campus studios? Perhaps the recital hall?
@napalmtomahawk9 жыл бұрын
+Brooks Martin the description says it was recorded on a boom box...
@BrooksMartinAKAmayoknave9 жыл бұрын
+Napalm Tomahawk When you're recording with a boombox in a situation like that, you can either record the radio signal or use the boombox's internal microphone to record the room sound. This sounds like the later. The thing about KAOS broadcasts is that there is rarely a live audience, and there is clearly a live audience as well as stage monitors that Buzz complains about in this recording.

I will ask Buzz next time I see him. That might be a while. The friend who owns this tape sang with the melvins and they did covers. He might remember some of the titles.
