There is a longer version with Scott introducing Kevin and providing the story of how he and PTX found Kevin. It's worth a watch on your own.

I love your reactions so much to PTX! You've said, you thought Kevin was a "sleeper." Well, he let it out!!! He has an amazing gift. They all do. Thanks for sharing your very insightful musical knowledge.

Hi, just found your channel for the first time today, and LOVE watching your reaction to PTX. I've been a Pentaholic since the start! Just when you think Kevin couldn't possibly have any more talents hidden away with the cello (named Beyonce) the beatboxing, arrangements, musicality and voice of an angel.... He is a maths genius, was studying Medicine (neurobiology) at Yale, but ultimately decided to pursue his musical career, oh and he moved to Beijing and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. Classically trained Cellist, but also plays piano and alto saxophone - because why not?!. The guy is un-freaking-beleivable. I swear he is not human. And best of all - he is humble and a lovely, kind person. Thanks John for giving me the joy of watching your reactions.

If you had listened to Scott's introduction you'd know how to pronounce Kevin's last name. It's pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth. The dancers are a pair of professional dancers who use the stage name "Cost n' Mayor." They traveled with Pentatonix during their 2022 Christmas tour and also appeared as the dancing video techs in the official video of "Kid On Christmas." Kevin is the oldest member of Pentatonix, and Matt is the youngest. Additionally, the two of them comprise the rhythm section, so they work closely together and Kevin has been a mentor to Matt. It isn't surprising that Kevin would use part of his big moment to give Matt a chance to show off a skill that Matt doesn't normally get a chance to display as a member of Pentatonix. Kevin has perfect pitch. He began piano lessons at age 4, cello at age 6, and alto saxophone at age 10. He's a world-class cellist who beatboxes while playing the cello, a technique he calls "celloboxing." He performed at Carnegie Hall twice when he was a teenager, once on saxophone and once on cello. He graduated from Yale with a pre-med major in 2011 and had already been accepted to Yale Medical School before he decided to become a professional beatboxer instead of a brilliant surgeon. He speaks five languages fluently: English, French, Spanish, German, and Mandarin Chinese. He's one of the kindest people in the world, and when he laughs he makes the whole planet seem like a brighter place. Basically, Kevin is a polymath. Polymaths are the people geniuses look at and say, "Boy, I wish MY brain were that good!" Leonardo da Vinci was a polymath. So were Richard Feynman and Isaac Asimov. The odds against the trio finding Kevin just when they needed him were astronomical. The fact that he was willing to give up his place in medical school to join three teenagers and a bass on a television talent show is astounding. And the fact that, when Epic dropped that first recording contract, Kevin DIDN'T say, "That's it. I'm outta here. I can still become a surgeon." speaks of a man with incredible character. I don't think Kevin knows how to do anything poorly. I suppose it's possible that somewhere there's a better beatboxer than Kevin - anything is possible - but if so I've never encountered him or her.

Kevin might be an advanced human from the future sent back to show us our potential. Or Kevin could be the DaVinci of our time. Kevin is such a true genius and a musical genius. He has so many talents in him I can't believe he hasn't self-combusted. Can play multiple instruments, sing, beatbox, write, compose, speaks multiple languages, perfect pitch, as if that wasn't enough, he was pre-med at Yale. He is also a humble and wonderful human. Maybe when he is done making music, he can become a Nobel Laureate after curing cancer and brokering world peace.

Kevin is amazing and so humble! There is an early video that shows the original five members sitting together for an interview and Mitch is very funny and some of his answers would get Kevin laughing and it was so contagious. Kevin and Avi were roommates and you tell what good friends they were. Kevin says he didn’t have the confidence to sing until Avi started working with him. Love them all but Kevin’s collection of skills is jaw dropping!

Kevin is just a phenomenally talented human being. So intelligent, skilled, detail orientated. To have such a creative human being also be impressively smart is something. Normally you lean more on the left side of the brain, or the right. This man has it all. So happy to see a new reaction on this!

Cello is my favorite instrument (even though I'm a violinist, lol!). Interestingly enough, I believe all the background strings are cellos. Crazy the range that instrument has! I've seen this live twice now, and it is absolutely insane how that man does it all! The only time I've seen the Jacksonville, FL crowd give a full standing ovation is for Kevin (which is sad, PTX deserves it, too, but very telling).

Kevin is amazing! If you enjoy this kind of cello you should listen to Apocalyptica. They do metal on cello's. They started out doing Metallica covers, but they've been doing their own original songs for years now. I love their version of Nothing Else Matters, Hall Of The Mountainking is a great classical piece done metal and Path, though old, is one of my favorite originals. You should definitely check them out!

I subscribed this evening and have watched a few of your PTX reactions. I mentioned Aha, Imogene Heap's song. They have an official video and the live if you want to compare. The live is FAR better than the studio version. They say Mitch had a couple of redbulls before the performance. He goes OFF CRAZY!!! It MUST BE that particular performance though. Was a drummer in a band. I was no where near as talented at Kevin. I did sing and drum at the same time and it is not easy. I really had to get into a different head space to make it all work. I could really feel the different parts of my brain working to make it all happen.
