Green governments are cracking down on chemical fertilizer.
The result? Hunger.

--------
In Sri Lanka people rioted when the country slipped into extreme poverty.
Why did it happen?
Here’s one big reason: the government banned chemical fertilizer.
Environmental activists say nitrogen fertilizers shouldn’t be used, and Sri Lanka’s president listened.
As a result, farms produced much less food, and food prices have risen 80%.
Have the “green” activists learned from this? No.
They continue to push for a chemical free world.
“It’s out of control” says environmentalist Michael Shellenberger, “completely unnecessary.”
In the video above, he explains how this green dogma would lead to mass starvation.

I couldn’t help but notice that the people pushing these insane energy policies don’t have to suffer the consequences of their policies. They continue to own multiple big homes, fleets of cars, yacht(s) and fly in private jets. Their lives are not interfered with at all. It’s only the little people that have their lives destroyed.

Yep! Funny how that works. Famine is coming and it's a very ugly thing. The Green Movement or whatever you want to call it is part of it. But the current Russo- Ukrainian war is pushing the world to a famine. Both are major producers of Wheat and Fertilizer. What happened in Sri Lanka is ugly but it's nothing compared to what is coming.

Honestly the problem is not nitrogen based fertilizers it's the fact that we don't need to be using those fertilizers to begin with if we didn't have government subsidized crops where we have these welfare crops where we are growing a singular crop on a field then we wouldn't have as many of these problems but the problem is it's all about making money instead of actually feeding people it's all about the bottom line instead of caring about the land and everything else you can use biochar and natural organic material all of your poop instead of flushing it down the toilet make fertilizer with it use your pee and make fertilizer ultimately the problem is we have forgotten how to actually grow props if we use biochar it is like a coral reef for the ground you are giving places for life to live inside of the Char which gets bio organically activated and the life can live inside of it literally like a coral reef increasing crop yields by more than 50% this would give you more than enough abundance to not need to use fertilizers or grow mono crops we should not be growing things that we have to plant every year either we should have perennial plants fruit trees growing fruit every single year we should have things that produce annually without needing to be seeded and fertilized. You have no idea what you're talking about on this subject I can guarantee you that. You sound like a corporate sellout piece of s*** who wants to go to war with Ukraine because that's where all of our fertilizers are at that's where all the important parts of the trifecta of fertilizer is act and you're just touting the same bs as everyone else without actually knowing anything about how to produce crops you've never grown a single crop in your entire life! We're talking about manure we have so much s*** we flush it down the toilet every day and we are not putting it back onto our land we have enough s*** from humans to make enough manure to make as many crops as we need and with biochar to activate and for that to live inside of the biochar like a coral reef like I said it will increase your crop yields more than 50% creating artificial abundance you are just pushing the same corporate mindset of making profits for the bottom line by making people have to have these fertilizers and making them think that there's no other way when you're completely wrong and a total fool!!!

@@bradhaines3142 depends. Ive worked on many coal power stations and its all about location. Cooling towers can be the big curvy hyperbolic ones or lower, flat crossflow ones facing side on to the prevailing winds. They usually have big fans on top. Others that are located next to a large water source like the ocean or big lakes can use heat exchangers. They still use demineralised water for the boiler and usually have dams of plashett or 'make up' water to top the system up. Environmental regulations will determin how much temp delta they can cause in the outlet waterway. We usually find large fish congregating at the end of the outlet channels. They seem to love it, but there can be problems with sea life getting drawn into the channel and stuck at the filter screens if solutions arent made.

Kudos on the farming so no disrespect on that. But since you were the the only commentator (that I'm aware of) that mentioned meat production so far, I wanted to chime in on that - It's true, if we stopped eating meat at every damn meal in Western cultures, we wouldn't be using about 73% of all the soybean and corn production to feed cattle. *Livestock takes up nearly 80% of global agricultural land, yet produces less than 20% of the world's supply of calories!* So anyone bitching about plastic straws, or what type of fertilizer is being used is grossly misguided, imho. The single biggest threat to the environment is meat production. The only thing close in scope is transportation, but that at least is a necessity. Whereas bringing animals into production just to torture and kill for food is a luxury.

That's why they talk about the world getting over populated and the climate crises. That is based off a theory (not proven fact!!!). A theory where many of the so called assumptions about it; have already been proven wrong time and time again. But the left don't listen to real scientist. They are only interested in making genocide sound like a good thing. While saying they follow the science. But have no real scientist writing their research papers. Many of those politicians have been banned from the science they claim the understand. Banned for what? For writing lies and publishing false studies that never happened. I think that for most of human history our 'harmony' has been to escape the effects of 'nature'.. we invented weapons to hunt food, and repell those animals that hunted us. We learned to preserve food to ameliorate the effects of failed crops or other devastating threats. We invented medicine to prevent the deaths from a splinter, cut or a common cold. Our history has not been the acceptance of the inevitable consequences of 'living in harmony with nature' , but the neverending desire to overcome the inevitable.

She had pamphlets for us to read, and it all looked very scientific and well researched to me...as a kid. Not only was NYC in trouble, but the Midwest, where I lived was going to be a desert wasteland, like Mad Max! I was terrified for the rest of the day, and for a long time after that. The upside was that it did make me into a conservationist, and environmentalist. I grew up in a farming town and went to school with a lot of farmer's kids and I learned a couple things about agriculture most people in the world don't seem to know. 1) Farmers need EVERY advantage they can get in order to have a decent harvest. Before modern insecticides, fungicides, weed killers, fertilizers, irrigation systems, drought resistant seeds, and many many many other agricultural innovations there was always a great risk of a farmers pulling in next to nothicome harvest time. 2) Farming is very much a skilled trade. It requires generations of knowledge and immense commitment. Farmers know what they're doing, they have to otherwise they won't be successful. Knowing these two things I know enough that I should leave decisions on farming in the hands of the farmers.

This is, because some NGOs became dogmatic to stay relevant over the past 2-3 decades. To save their business models, they went into the institutions, as industry lobbies did. Politicians are the third, most weakest link, since they are depended on the money in this game. Since governments depend more and more on these organizations, instead of the offices in their institutions - policies are made to serve these special interests, so things go out of control and as you can see in some states of the USA, European Union, South East Asia etc., straight into disaster. Societies need to drive NGOs and Lobbies out of the government bodies and take back sovereignty.

The Maldive Islands, the place the UN predicted in 1988 would be underwater in 30 years due to sea level rise caused by global warming. Luckily for the PM, that prediction was as stupidly wrong as pretty much all of the predictions by the climate cultists, so he had a convenient place to run to when he lost his job for inflicting on his country the insane policies urged on him by today's climate cultists. The irony of this would be hilarious if it weren't for the suffering of the Sri Lankan people.

A lot of these "less desirable" places are used as testing grounds for policies they will use later. It used to be done within the same country when you didn't have power to exert over others, but the second you can use people you don't care about as fodder, you test out things. Unless you are the FBI and CIA and then you just do horrific things on your own citizenry since it's a known environment.

I agree. The math they do in their head probably goes like this: In 5, 10, 15, 25, etc. years, the earth will undergo a scorching flood. To reverse this irreversible catastrophe, we must radically reduce the x, y, and z things that modern humans have to come to rely on for their survival. By reducing x, y, and z, the problem is that many people will die of natural causes. This is an acceptable level of collateral damage because the planet will be "saved" but with a severely reduced human population. It all comes down to how far back to the stone age the Green Left wants to go.

It is definitely intentional. They had to come up with a plan that sounded humanitarian to implement their depopulation agenda. Whatever the left says, they really mean the opposite. It's all in the Bible. We are in the end times and the only savior we have from all this madness is not found in anyone or anything on this earth. It is found in Jesus Christ alone.

The problem in Sri Lanka is that organic farming can't be done overnight. It can take up to 10 years to bring soil back to life after toxic fertilization of the soil. It's a gradual pricess - something politicians cant conceive. Politicians are too ignorant to be sticking their noses into ither peoples business. Thats why limiting government is so vital.

Unfortunately, this may be one of those scenarios where things have to get *really* bad before a real solution can be made. From the industrial revolution to now, we went from one extreme to the other, while skipping over a balance entirely. With the world's political leaders hellbent on tipping the scales completely in the opposite direction, we're creating a global humanitarian crisis in real-time. This all has a twisted sense of irony to it, too - they've been telling everyone climate change was going to create a global crisis but instead we're doing it to ourselves.

I agree with treating the environment as precious but you can not flip a switch and turn industries. It is irresponsible and results in inflation that crushes the middle class and poor. If green sources of energy or fertilizer are made economical then people will use them by choice instead of having it crammed down their throats. Innovation is the only way to move an economy or industry responsibly.

@@jimruby9657 I agree in a capitalist society government subsidies are simply the government picking winners and losers with our taxpayer dollars and most of the time its slight of hand. I have an organic nursery business. Organic is far more productive but it takes years to implement. Most people also lack the knowledge of how to do it. I see a scary amount of magical thinking with a lot of customers. They think simply placing one comfrey plant on your property will magically improve ALL the soil on your property. Its honestly pretty frustrating trying to educate the general public to grow organically.

The growth in urban population has alienated (isolated) more people from the realities of rural life and knowledge. This mean that utterly ignorant people who never ever own a farm or even a garden buy ridiculous notions about how food could be produced on mass. Of course that you can make organic tomatoes with poo on a pot and call it a win and think you know everything about nature, but you don't live all year long with that produce. So many things are involved to successfully feed billions and Greta Thumbergian people are messing with things they know nothing about or care little about. Or worse: most people misery means more power to them (as people are more easily bought). Full stomachs are harder to bribe.

Soil testing to determine how much fertilizer is required has been a standard practice in the US for as long as I can remember. Education and local agencies to assist farmers in determining exactly how much fertilizer they need to use for each field based on soil sample testing would be the best problem solvers for the overuse of chemical fertilizers around the World. The answer is to use chemical fertilizers wisely thru testing and education, not to ban them completely out of ignorance.
@Beyonder8335

As a farmer, you nailed it dude. 98% of the stuff we do is trying to use the least amount of fertilizer possible, while still getting good output. People cannot figure out that it’s not only better for environment, but also our business.
@ryang2573
@ryang2573 Жыл бұрын
I also hear that modern combines have sensors that have databases that map the combine's current position to the yields from last years harvest and automatically adjust the amount of chemicals they're putting down to compensate. So the area that didn't yield much gets a little more fertilizer while the area that did super well gets its fertilizer reduced. Not sure if this is widespread tech or not, but - if that's the case - the ability to fine tune application to just what's needed can be used to further reduce overapplication and mitigate the concerns of the more rational environmentalists (i.e. the one's that aren't so insane that they think humanity is a virus that deserves extinction.)

Fertilizers are unessicary to grow food. Large monocrops growing same crop year after year depletes the soil. chemicals added like pesticides disturb natural bacteria and fungi processes in the soil that help nutrients in soil get to plants, that can result in lower yield. Pesticides and toxic chemicals can affect benifical insects like pollenators reducing pollenation rates resulting in lower yield. Poly culture diverse organic food forests are good. The variety of crops together helps provide a larger variety of nutrients in decomposed crops and compost that is added back to soil. different plants require different nutrients. Grown together and crop rotation can help them take different nutrients, and leave other nutrients for other plants. Nitrogen fixing plants can be added. Let everyone that wants use an acre of free tax free land to grow their own food and live on. Organic fertilizer and composted cow manure run off causes problems in water too. they shouldn't ban fertilizer, instead they could ban exsessive pollution. It should be an individual case basis to determine if they r causing too much pollution from their fertilizer.
