Theses great signs can all be seen in a 1/4-1/2 mile walk around downtown. Enjoy! All flat, right in the center of town... Great history

So many towns both large and small have these. It's a nice piece of history and I'm glad they are not painted over

REALLY sad to see what has happened to Johnstown. When I grew up there the population was over 60,000. Now it is below 20,000 and the town is just not the same. High crime, no jobs.

My friend be at once undeceived. Greater Johnstown consists of 52 surrounding municipalities with a total population of 140,000 people. Downtown people have moved uphill to the Richland area and other surrounding hillsides. Do not count “SURVIVOR CITY” down or out.

I moved here a few months ago from what I learned and seen so far it's peaceful here there isnt trash everywhere and it's beautiful there is alot of abandoned buildings other than that I cant say nothing bad I here about people saying there's lots of problems and drugs but I personally never have seen it myself I'm from Baltimore if people believe it's so bad here and lots of drugs do yourself a favor do not go to Baltimore what this town reminds me of is the town in first blood meaning the only problem you might find here is the law. Great video keep up the good work I'm a artist and one of the things I thought of when moving here is how or what I can do to make this place even better all it needs is a little TLC

Alan, you’re absolutely right. Unfortunately downtown has the size of buildings that are more for an 80,000 population. So unless they convert them into condos they won’t get filled very easily. There are great people doing great things on main street

let me know how you like it now as am considering moving there

Johnstown has some amazing architecture,history.The population peaked at 67,000,the 2020 census it's population is now around 18,500,a huge decrease,lots of vacant buildings.
@StuffthatsGone2 жыл бұрын
Yes and that’s why it’s almost impossible to fill those buildings unless you convert them into upscale condos. I live in Irwin Penn Township and we have a greater population

I've never noticed them that much, but I've noticed a lot of abandoned things in the upper half of johnstown.

90% of this town is abandoned which is why it's so terrible

Neat old stuff, I need to check these out next time I head back home. Only get to Johnstown once or twice a year now. Just too depressing.

I'm with you Paul, it is sad to see the condition of Johnstown, but it truly was a great place to grow up. It will always be home to me.

I had a meeting with the higher up people at the town hall.. I threw some ideas out there. Like calling downtown's name to old town Johnstown. Window dressing the vacant stores with clothes or items of the era of the buildings. Restoring the ghost signs. Leaving myself wide open. I suggested getting people from the jail to restore the ghost signs.Restoring store fronts to the era . They were receptive. I used to live in VA. They had old town Alexandria. I called different organizations in town. Tried . Get something going here for out of town tourism.. promote Johnstown. People walking around in period clothes. Maybe horse and buggy rides . Maybe tours of the steel mills.

@@joeenglert moved to Portland Oregon for three years. My house here got stripped of anything they could bring to the scrap metal yard. Had nothing to come back to. Has Johnstown got worse. Yes

So these signs that are uncovered after building are torn down were obviously before said building was built. So my question is how old are these signs?? I mean the buildings that were demolished were incredibly old
