Wow - What a guy - you are my hero! But My story is a little different. I followed your direction and learned that my thermal fuse was NOT tripped. So I started following the brown power like. It is connected to a micro switch activated by the door. Well a quick check indicated the switch had no continuity. I took it apart and found that the plunger operated by the door had worn down just enough not to activate. I turner it so the worn side was facing the rear and IT WORKED. I would never had had the chutzpah to crack the case on this baby had you not led the way. I love this machine and would have immediately replaced it. Thanks for making me curious. You are quite an adventurer and you are kind enough to share. Thank You!

Thanks for the DIY fix. In our case it was not the thermal switch, but the micro switch at the front. The one that triggers the screen and open door. The switch was malfunctioning and by using a small screwdriver, bending the flip switch leg inside the micro switch a bit, fixed the switch. Now we're cooking again. Your vid helped me figure out how to open it up. Thank you so much! SYMPTOM: If the fryer briefly turns on when you plug it in and the light inside stays on, but the screen stays off when the door is open. This switch is the problem. Msg me and I can help with some pictures I took.

It shorted out again, right after I put it all together and used once. Why would that happen?
@johntube25253 жыл бұрын
@@angelacendejas9340 First, Thank you for subscribing. This is going to be long, but I will put the summary first and again at the end. Please try to read my entire comment. In summary, the fryer needs to be clean and it needs to circulate air. I do not know your actual case because I was not there. But I think it is important to clean the inside of the fryer after each use. Try to keep grease from building up, because it can heat fast. Especially clean the thermal fuse itself and the thermistor. The thermistor is a small nipple looking device protruding down from the roof of the fryer. Also very important to move the fryer to an area it can breathe. Better stated, so the fan and vents can move air. If cooking something that takes a long time, it might be advisable to move it out onto a table where it does not have a cupboard above it and a wall behind it. This allows the air to circulate better. It should always be pulled away from the wall when being used so air can circulate better and prevent heat buildup which can trigger the safety device. Sorry this is so long, but going on: I call the safety device a thermal fuse, because it opens by temperature. It is a safety device installed by the manufacture to prevent fire. Ours was labeled 200 C. 200 C translates to 392 degrees Fahrenheit. Google; spontaneous combustion. You may find something like this, the temperature at which paper will burn can vary by material, moisture, and thickness. The average temperature at which it will ignite and burn is between 424 and 475 degrees Fahrenheit. Obviously the manufacture wanted to be way below these temperatures with his safety device’s rating. Once the temperature exceeds the rated value of this safety device, it opens so no more current can flow beyond it, thus shutting down the fryer. With no fan turning, no circulation of air, the internal temperature could rise for a short time then start to dissipate. In addition, the heating element will not immediately cool. It will slowly dissipate heat. I believe this is another reason the manufacture decided on 200 C for their safety device. Since I had totally dismantled my son’s fryer, I took the time to clean everything. It was quite dirty. Even had grease built up in spots that could not be cleaned unless it was dismantled. I cleaned everything so it looked brand new. Sorry this is so long, but you asked and I am trying to give you my best guess without actually seeing how your device is being used. I hope this helps! In summary, the fryer needs to be clean and it needs to circulate air. If you told me, I only operate it on an open table, nothing around it, and it is spotless and completely clean, I would say perhaps it is time to discard it or take it to someone to test the rest of the electrical components. I hope this helps and thanks again for commenting, and subscribing!

If I may.... This was a great video. Thank you. I did mine a bit different after watching this video. After the top cover is off look into the machine through the back left corner so you can see the thermal breaker. I drilled a hole through the top plastic frame right over top of that button. I then poked a dowel through that hole and by watching through the top I was able to reset the breaker. A bit less work to do. If it popped once it will probably pop again. My job is to make my job easier.
@johntube2525 Жыл бұрын
Might be a good idea if you occasionally cook things that take a long time to cook and could cause the internal temperature to exceed the thermal fuse’s rated value. I told my son there were probably at least 3 things that could cause the thermal fuse to trip and he should try to avoid these three things. Remember the thermal fuse is a safety device to try and prevent a combustible fire from occurring. 1. Do not let grease build up inside the fryer. Keep it as clean as possible. 2. Do not cook with the Fryer in a somewhat confined space, where it cannot properly circulate air to keep the internal temperature below the thermal fuse’s rated value. 3. Try to avoid cooking things that take a very long time to cook and probably should have been cooked in a regular oven rather than the fryer. So yes, for Occasionally resetting, you have created a way to make it easier. I feel Occasional is the key word here. As you stated, it will probably pop again someday, but it is an important safety device! Thanks for watching and commenting.

I couldn't find any specific instructions online anywhere for that brand, but upon searching for air fryer repair videos, I noticed yours looked like almost the exact same model. So it must be the same manufacturer. Thanks to your clear instructions, I was finally able to open the case and locate the thermal fuse! I happened to push the button while checking continuity and noticed it clicked and I suddenly got continuity, so apparently it's a reset button. I was originally looking for the type of fuse which melts and has to be replaced (like our other air fryer had) so you saved us a bunch of time and money. Thanks again!

Excellent video for dismantling. I was trying to remove the heating element to clean to top inside the oven. Removed the bolt and heard the washer and nut fall behind the oven wall. Found the bolt and nut then clean the inside...some might be surprised how dirty the inside gets in 1 year.
@johntube25252 жыл бұрын
Yes, they do get quite dirty. I think your cleaning will be a benefit to keeping your fryer operational. Since I had my son’s practically completely apart, I cleaned it real well before reassembly. I put in the description that the fan is left hand threaded, which should help get it off. It is easier to clean the inside plates disassembled. I also stated in the description, that cleaning the thermofuse and thermistor after each use, or at least wiping them off, would probably help keep the fryer running. Good comment and good job.

I’m on my 3rd Vortex Plus oven air fryer and after cleaning it only the reheat wants to work. I’m assuming I got water inside the upper components and I’m hoping it’ll resolve itself after drying out. But thankfully now I’ll know how to fix it if it quits completely, again. Thank you!!
@johntube2525 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting! Since I had my son’s fryer completely apart, I cleaned the inside plates and everything that was dirty, really good. It is much easier to clean when apart. However, if not apart, I would only use warm wet rags with heated soapy water to clean the insides, rinse the rags out in a small container of warm soapy water and then wring the rag out until not dripping wet. Wipe any excess water and soap off with a dry cloth. Keep water away from circuit boards. As I have written to many others in the comment section, I believe keeping the insides clean, which includes wiping down the thermal fuse and thermistor is the key to keeping the unit cool enough to not trigger the thermal fuse. This would also include operating it in a location where it can easily circulate cool air. Try not to operate in a confined space or with the back up against the wall. As a side note, anytime I re-solder components on a circuit board I clean the flux and anything else off the circuit board with Isopropyl Alcohol and small foam cleaning pads already mounted on a plastic stick. I use 99% pure alcohol and it evaporates quickly so the board and components are not wet. Good luck and thanks again for watching and commenting! I hope what I have written here helps!

Thanks for sharing! Very helpful in understanding the problem. Also thanks for posting the label on the fuse chip, KSD301-CR 16A 125V 200 degrees C we might try that. :)

Thanks for watching and commenting. I am going to throw out my hypothesis on why I think people have trouble with these fryers. This is not aimed at you, but is something I hope others read. I am by far not an expert on these fryers. I don't even own one. The two main reason, I believe are: 1. The lack of good circulation of air. The thermal fuse is tripped by temperatures over 200 degrees C. Therefore, circulation of cooler air is essential to avoid tripping the thermal fuse. For sure move it away from the wall when in use to improve circulation. Anything that can be done to improve air circulation during prolonged use should help. 2. Not wiping it down after each use. I would take a wet cloth and heat it up in a microwave or dip it in a pan with hot water. Then wipe the inside of the fryer down with a hot or at least warm cloth. Especially, wipe down the face of the thermal fuse so it is clean and not building up grease or other unwanted substances that could cause it’s surface to become too hot or not allow the heat to dissipate. I think I will try to edit my description and add this to it. Perhaps it will help others. Again the above is not aimed at you, but is something I hope others will read. Thanks for watching and commenting and good luck with your fryer.

Thanks for watching and commenting. My son and I I love KZbin! It is the first place I turn to when something breaks. Lots and lots of good information on KZbin. My son has 4 children and he has been trying to teaching the 3 girls to play basketball. He said there is even good stuff on KZbin regarding basketball. He has gotten the girls hooked on KZbin. Not on Grandpa’s videos, but lots of other stuff they are interested in. LOL!

I say maybe, because I tend to make videos of things of ours that broke and we managed to fix. Mine just popped back open after resetting it, I’ll need to replace it. Thank you for the part number! KSD 301-CR 16A 125V~ 200*C ( 200*C equals 392*F which sits just below the supposed 400*F cooking setting???) No wonder it resets open (off)!

This was excellent, I had the exact same problem. My Husband was able to fix this in less than 3 minutes. Perfect instruction, easy to follow, Thank You for the tip regarding the tabs, if you do not know that its a loud popping noise you definitely would think you were breaking the plastic. Awesome
@johntube25253 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and yes it does not sound good popping those tabs lose. Sometimes a guitar pick will help free up an unseen tab. Guitar picks are thin and if long enough they can push the tab away and unlock it. I have used this method on my son's Xbox, but I could not fix it, so no video.

Great video. Thx for sharing! I hate to think how many of these units are going in the landfill, when they can be fixed in 5min with no parts. I didn’t even have to unplug the LED panel or remove the top housing. I just got a long, thin screwdriver and pushed the reset button after prying up the top.
@johntube25253 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the helpful comment. Once you know where the little black button to push is located, your way is the easiest way to reset the device.
@bchain86013 жыл бұрын
I’ve noticed the thermal fuse on my vortex plus has been tripping more frequently. I have to reset anytime I’m cooking at 400f for multiple minutes, so it definitely has a heat displacement problem or the fuse is too sensitive. I’m considering drilling some more vents in the plastic lid to see if it will help with heat.
@johntube25253 жыл бұрын
@@bchain8601 Thanks for watching and the comment. Please, let us know if you find a safe and successful way to eliminate having to continually reset the fuse, when cooking at 400 F. However, I am not surprised since the thermofuse is rated at 200 degrees Celsius, which is 392 degrees Fahrenheit. The unit I repaired was my sons and before that it was his mother-in-law’s. I say this, because I have never seen the User’s Manual and I have never had the opportunity to read the User’s Manual. 400 degrees F is higher than the thermalfuse’s rating of 392 F. I saw another KZbin video where the lady was going over how to cook with a fryer and she stated, as per the User’s Manual, be sure to pull the unit away from the wall before cooking with in it. She went on to say that it needs to be able to breathe properly. Since, I did not have a User’s Manual that video helped me try out my son’s unit after I had re-assembled it. Otherwise, I would not have known how to cook that piece of ham you see at the very end of my video. Good Luck!

Fixed the jammed door!! Yes!! I got the top off disconnected the display. Above where door latches should be is a single Phillips head screw on each side. I could tell it was the right side that was hung up. So after removing the screw on the right the plastic mechanism with a small spring came out. The stuck door opened! I threw out the last meal I tried to cook 3 days ago. Put back together and the door works fine. I have the rest of the head of cauliflower in there air frying right now. My new one is coming. Feeling smart!!

Great video and you're right, that's a reset button on that thermo fuse. Mine seems kind of loose and didn't fix it. I was having trouble finding a new one but I'm going to try the part number and see if I have better luck. Any ideas on where I can find that replacement part?
@johntube25252 жыл бұрын
Ours was labeled KSD301-CR, 16A, 125V, 200 degrees C. When I google this I get numerous returns, but almost all of them are way below 200 C and some do not have the black button on the back, so I do not think all of them can be reset. Seems, I once found the exact replacement, but I do not remember the source. I think I just kept googling KSD301-CR, but do not remember. I think it was an electrical parts supply company and the shipping was like four to five times the cost of the thermal fuse. I did find this by googling and it might work? www.ebay.com/itm/284931635435?hash=item42573fb8eb:g:TB4AAOSwfGpi-GkT&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoPI3sNPy1b%2BX%2FpxX0pjq%2B1Vd9m26iBXOH9IobcMs1Fqezzh4f330mnGN53F56zdvv64jun8nWIP0rKlO50zJLd%2FLRvxxUbaMX0lg4kx6aZvrewR33NmFLOM3dRiXeAI8VmQGYMZCQWM7vkdfFaeLX1c7AtbqYUhaSo819HgGQdwzIRqspDjEnHYGctyly6BRWZHCQX%2FlEMTtBKfNs%2Bpw8dc%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR9ye16fnYA Since my son never needed a new one I did not continue my search. Good Luck! If you find one that works, please make another comment with the info as it could help others. Thanks for watching and the comment!
