I was 15yo in 1980 completely unaware of how lucky I was to experience the best decade. Us kids had it all, freedom without the pressure of social media, incredible music and movies. Crazy fashion and hair, and no mobile phones. We actually socialized, we talked face to face, we knew our dates before the first date. Life had it's downsides but we didn't let them get in the way of having a good times. Nearly every person I know who experienced the 80's as a kid would go back in a heartbeat, no hesitation. I tear up when I hear the music from those times because they were the best of times. I ❤ 80's.

I was 27 in 1980, and I would go back in a heartbeat too. My sister and I talk about it all the time and our idea of Heaven is San Francisco in the 1980s. The midnight rides in one of our convertibles when we could not sleep, law school for her, Helicopter pilot for me, our buddies some gone now, some still with us. But we all will meet at the Cliff House one day again as we did then.

I can't imagine what it's like for teens today with so much incoming from all of this technology they're constantly bombarded with! It must be overwhelming for these poor kids in high school right now with smartphones connecting everyone on all of these different platforms! How do they keep track of it all? The pressure must me unrelenting in their digital existence! And here I am, pulling up music from when I was a teenager, reminiscing about old girlfriends, friends, etc. So much time wasted being terrified or too stressed to be comfortable in the moment. Driving 30mph over the speed limit to get there faster. Wherever THERE was, and why it mattered that much. It didn't. It never does. But no one could've made me believe that back then. When I start to feel late or panicked about time now I just stop myself and remember to slow it back down. Breathe in-breathe out. Because it's so easy to let it spin out of control, and miss the smell of the flowers right by our noses.

I sometimes think we are far more complex than we give ourselves credit for being . Okay we're stuck in the here and now , not by choice , but by the passage of time . Unfortunately , until a time machine is invented , there's not a lot we can do about that . Other than take the occasional mind trips , back to a happier , more fulfilling time . Admittedly upon reflection , it was far from perfect , as it never is in the real world . But on the whole , it was a damn sight better than it is right now . And as someone else remarked , thank goodness for KZbin . Where with the press of a few buttons , as if by magic , you're instantly transported back to those times . I suppose in some respects , KZbin could in itself , be classed as a time machine , viewed in that way . Just as if nothing has changed . And of course it never will . It will always stay the same . Safely locked away , in the vaults of time forevermore ........

I lost my dad in February 3 years ago. I watched as dementia started coming on . I remember the stories he told of growing up . Wish so many times I could hear them stories again . He also had cancer and and when we found out in November it was quick . I can remember arguments with him thinking I knew better. But my dad was 89 and he sure knew more than what I ever thought I knew. I disappointed him in early years with my actions. But what I wouldn't give to have him back with me now. The hurt and pain of losing a loved one never goes away . Prayers for all who have lost a loved one .

This song was literally everywhere during the late summer and autumn of 1984 and it was on heavy rotation on MuchMusic (Canada's MTV). I was in the sixth grade that autumn and remember my school bus driver always had the radio on and this came on practically every morning. I have warm, fuzzy feelings and memories of hearing this song, bright, sunny, crisp autumn mornings, seeing fall foliage outside, on my way to school.

Aww... This must be so special to you then and I'm glad that you have this wonderful song to such fond memories. For I understand there's no better way to recall moments we hold dear to our hearts than thru good music. I have such a song that feels that way to me. It wasn't this one but just like you, I was on a bus in our field trip in my 5th grade. It was the first field trip I'm in that my mother didn't went with me and I liked the temporary independence and being just with my friends that time. It was a beautiful afternoon, we were driving by a countryside to our next itinerary and my classmates were tired by that time and the bus blessedly quiet, I was staring out of the window while listening to my walkman when the famous song popped in and never had it felt more special and personal. I always play it whenever I have a tough day, and get transported back to those peaceful memories. Amazing how music seems to stow away mementos of our life with it and could make us remember it just as vividly as though it was yesterday, feelings and all. 💚

Iconic song and phenomenal vocalist. The music of the 80’s hands down the best. Real singers, real musicians, lyrics that we could relate to. This iconic masterpiece was during John’s solo career. He was also lead vocalist for Bad English, The Babys, and Ringo Starrs All Starr band. Last summer I went to a concert with John and Rick Springfield. Tears streaming down my face, and goosebumps all over STILL! He still has that magic and sounds almost exactly the same. ❤❤❤

I’d like so much to turn back time to the 80’s when music was MUSIC. I wasn’t born yet when this song came out but I wish I could live in those years when everything was simpler and people were happier.

This song is medicine for my soul... stuck in quarantine missing the person I try to tell myself I'm over. Sometimes there is just that one person you'll always love, even if they don't love you in return, even if years pass by. I've made peace with the fact that we will never be together, but the longing never leaves me. I've had to accept that a part of me will always be missing. Such is life in this world.

Every time I think of you I always catch my breath And I'm still standing here And you're miles away And I'm wondering why you left And there's a storm that's raging Through my frozen heart tonight I hear your name in certain circles And it always makes me smile I spend my time Thinking about you And it's almost driving me wild And there's a heart that's breaking Down this long distance line tonight I ain't missing you at all Since you've been gone Away I ain't missing you No matter What I might say There's a message In the wild And I'm sending you This signal tonight You don't know How desperate I've become And it looks like I'm losing this fight In your world I have no meaning Though I'm trying hard To understand And it's my heart that's breaking Down this long distance line tonight I ain't missing you at all Since you've been gone Away I ain't missing you No matter What my friends say And there's a message that I'm sending out Like a telegraph to your soul And if I can't bridge this distance Stop this heartbreak overload I ain't missing you at all Since you've been gone Away I ain't missing you No matter What my friends say I ain't missing you I ain't missing you I keep lying to myself And there's a storm that's raging Through my frozen heart tonight I ain't missing you at all Since you've been gone Away I ain't missing you No matter What my friends say Ain't missing you I ain't missing you I ain't missing you I keep lying to myself Ain't missing you I ain't missing you I ain't missing you I ain't missing you I ain't missing you I ain't missing you Ain't missing you Oh no No matter what my friends might say I ain't missing you

In the 80s, all the music were great from the soul, pop, and heavy metal songs. I grew up listening to them even hitched on I-40, from Window Rock, AZ to Albuquerque, NM, to see Iron Maiden, Dio, White Snake concerts with one or two high school friends. I sure miss those younger days, really do.

Back in 84 I was in my late teens. I had a girlfriend that completely broke my heart and this song got me through those very tough days. I would listen to it over and over and it truly helped with the healing process. I hear it now and I get this deep feeling of nostalgia for those days long ago. My mom got to love the song too, she passed away in 2007. This song still makes me sigh after all of these years! Thank you John for such a timeless masterpiece!
