There are so many inside satirical jokes in our Nandos ads. They are like political satirist cartoons you find in snobby newspapers for the masses. And yes, they have landed themselves in hot water at times with their spot-on takes of life in South Africa. And also yes, South Africans have an indefatigable sense of humour, without which we could not survive.

Nandos have by far the best marketing team. Every advert hits the nail on the head, knowing how to poke fun at everyone so that no one gets offended and everyone laughs. Sadly times are changing and the adverts aren't the same anymore... The best Nandos ad imo is the reshuffling the cabinet one but it would only be funny and make sense to people who understand SA politics.

The ad calling for people to go back to their land is misunderstood. The point of it is to show that if xenophobia was to be implemented, all South Africans and non-citizens will be gone; including blacks….( we came to Southern Africa some thousands of years ago). The only people left will be the South African indigenous people, the mighty Khoisan peoples. That is the reason the last guy is swearing. He is not going anywhere.

Hi man, love your reactions. I've met somene who worked on Nando's campaigns. She said that when big political/social events happen in SA, the team who conceptualises the ads have to brainstorm ideas immediataly, even if it's in the middel of the night, so that the production agency can start shooting ads within 24 hours of the news. They want in on TV within days of the news.

I do not think the Canadian Nando's can advertise , we found a few years back that some foreigners came here, found some of our hidden gems as in restaurants such as OCEAN BASKET, MUGG N BEAN, NANDO'S ,ETC and went back home opened up their own copied everything to a T .. South Africa did not complain too much though we did find it funny.. But yeah I think that is is why they not allowed to advertise over there.

Nando's got away with these adds by airing it on a Friday afternoon , through Saturday and until Sunday evening . Come Monday morning they pulled the adds before they were requested to do so by the film and publications board of South Africa .
